Found guilty on all but one of the charges.
I doubt the FA will have the backbone to relegate the club or strip it of any titles. A hefty fine, a points deduction and a transfer embargo would seem more likely.
I feel sorry for the City fans who supported the club during the lean years, including relegation to the third tier.
September 26, 2026 at 10:04 #1776155A fine, even a substantial one, means nothing to them; a points deduction might lead to their missing out on qualifying for the Champions League for one year (matters for prestige reasons more than financial ones); a transfer embargo affects them but they already have a vast squad.
They need to be punished severely, not with these half-arsed measures, but, as CAS says, the authorities will be too spineless to take proper action.
By the way, why isn’t this topic in the General Sports forum? 🤔
September 26, 2026 at 10:30 #1776164I thought it was a news item as much as a sports story. It was the lead news item on several sites yesterday and is on the front page of some of today’s newspapers.
If the mods want to move it, then OK. But there is already a thread in the Lounge about the England cricket team, so sporting matters are discussed here.
September 26, 2026 at 10:32 #1776165That shouldn’t be here either. Funny how both threads were started by the same person… must be coincidence.
September 26, 2026 at 10:35 #1776167Front page of today’s edition of “The Guardian”. Considered to be headline news. Unless the Grauniad’s sub editors have moved the sports pages to the front..
September 26, 2026 at 10:41 #1776168Everton had many points for admitting the rule breach they made. Likewise Leicester and Nottingham Forest. I think the cases of these were the breach of FFP.
I’m not sure what all of City’s charges amount to but I’m guessing at least one maybe FFP included. They denied all wrong doing.
I’d strip them of their titles personally. Not sure about rewarded them to Liverpool 3 and United 3. Arsenal’s 2 lately wouldn’t come into that if I read it write as that came under the 1 out of 115 that they were found not guilty of.
They are appealing the charges so I’m sure it will rumble on for a few more years.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 26, 2026 at 10:48 #1776171I agree it will rumble on for years.
I am not sure about stripping the titles. I recognise there is an argument in favour – and I recall this punishment was handed out to Juventus, so there is a sort of precedent.
But do the other teams want to “win” a title something like ten years after the event? It would be a hollow victory. And sport is about celebrating a win in the here and now.
September 26, 2026 at 10:56 #1776172I’d be in favour of stripping the titles without the reward to those who were runners up
I recall many calling Klopp a failure of not winning the title whilst amassing 90+ points. How will this effect Pep’s legacy? I know it wasn’t him personally who did the fiddling as such but he benefited from the players they club were able to bring inGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
September 26, 2026 at 11:38 #1776182Pep’s legacy will be the same as it has always been.
September 26, 2026 at 11:42 #1776184I wonder if he knew the outcome was due.
