I was watching the racing yesterday and remembered that I’ve got an ante post ticket on the win-less Black Jarcari for the triumph hurdle

Has any maiden horse ever won at the festival?
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
February 16, 2009 at 21:16 #210561Long time ago, but I have good reason to remember it, Heighlin was a maiden over hurdles when he won the Triumph in 1980.
The good reason being that I was sat with the trainer when he bought the horse at Newmarket the previous October.
February 16, 2009 at 21:19 #210564Not the Festival but Commanche Court was a maiden over fences when he took the Irish National (don’t think there’s too many Festival maiden winners so he’s a big race maiden winner for you
)February 16, 2009 at 21:27 #210566I’ve got Black Jacari at 16/1 also after his first run over hurdles at Rasen.
Fancy a pint??

Melnik did win a race at Cheltenham as well as losing a few!February 16, 2009 at 22:02 #210586Wasn’t that the year that Bear Claw won the EBF Final when they had a non-festival day on the Friday? In which case it doesn’t strictly count.
February 16, 2009 at 22:04 #210587Melnik was bred by Sheikh Mohamed by Nashwan.

February 16, 2009 at 22:07 #210589Dead right Rory- wasn’t a Festival day- I was there and it had a very "after the Lord Mayor’s Show " feel to it, no atmosphere!
