In her first ever start, the 3 year old Magic Maid (GER), finished last in a flat race at Brighton, returned lame after the race and was put down.

July 6, 2011 at 11:44 #363736Barney Curley is going to seek damages against Brighton racecourse.
BARNEY CURLEY will be pressing for compensation after his highly regarded filly Magic Maid had to be destroyed within moments of making her racecourse debut at Brighton on Monday.
The three-year-old daughter of Monsun was returning to be unsaddled after running in the Sporting Signs Maiden Stakes when, according to Curley, she tripped on a strip of matting that covered the road after the winning post and broke her near foreleg pastern.
Curley claims the course did not put down the mats properly. "I’m as sick as a dog," said the trainer, who watched the race at home in Newmarket.
Jockey Tom Queally said: "It is something to do with the mats. She tripped and broke her leg."
Asked whether he would be taking legal action, Curley, who does not insure his horses, said: "Of course. She was a beautiful, well-tempered, lovely filly by Monsun out of a Gone West filly who won a Listed race at Saint-Cloud and I’ve never had a better-bred one.
"I didn’t think Brighton would suit her, but I decided to run her anyway just to give her experience on the racecourse and now this has happened. It’s very wrong.
"The clerk of the course rang me to say he was sorry, but it’s losing her, no matter what you get, that is really upsetting. When am I going to get another one with breeding like her?"
Stewards’ secretary Tony McGlone said: "Onthe way back the filly suffered a fatal injury. The vet could not give an explanation, but it happened at the point of the crossing. We had an inquiry, talking to the vet, Tom Queally and the racecourse executive and a full report will be sent to the BHA."
Clerk of the course Edward Arkell said: "It is a very unfortunate situation and we are investigating the incident. The stewards have sent a report to the BHA."
Meanwhile Northern Ireland-based solicitor Andrew Montague, who is representing five online punters owed in excess of £800,000 by Betfred.com as part of an estimated £4 million gamble masterminded by Curley in May 2010, hopes to have lodged an application by the end of this week to Gibraltar’s supreme court for a judicial review of the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority’s handling of the case.
Gibraltar-registered Betfred.com voided the bets, despite the company paying out bets placed in their UK betting shops, after the GRA ruled the coup was "a fraudulent enterprise based on deceptions and the systematic misuse of inside information", accusations Curley strenuously denies.

July 11, 2011 at 11:03 #364267If she pulled up lame after the race, it’s likely she’d already sustained a facture of some sort and the problem with the mat just completed the break.
Very sad outcome though. RIP.
July 11, 2011 at 17:23 #364300Nothing in that article says she was lame before the incident though. The RP says "lame after race" so I suspect they mean after the incident, which happened quite close to the post, and not that she went lame before that.
Horrible thing to happen though.
