Blimey Rory, that’s a blast from the past! Excellent stuff. :D

    I aim to please, Soba!

What about the flat horse Alphabatim,i bet you cant remember who trained and owned this character Rory?

I remember him well TAPK – was off school sick on the day of the 1984 Derby so was lucky enough to watch that great race live, although the small wager I convinced my Dad to place on At Talaq was destined to go the way of all good each way bets, even at 250/1.

    Jumping in here :D

Was it Guy Harwood and Khalid Abdullah? Once quite fancied for the Derby if it’s the one I’m thinking of?

Well done Soba, but who beat him in the 1984 Geoffrey Freer and displaced him as 2nd fav for that years St leger?

Richard Hills had his debut ride in a classic for Hamdan Al Maktoum and Harry Thomson-Jones (Tom Jones). He went on to win the Melbourne cup.

One of my favourite horses of a few years back, Seven Towers used to run with his nose almost touching the turf and was the first I noticed running like that. I guess a low head carriage is better than a very high one.

That would be the lovely Baynoun who then went on to finish second to Commanche Run in the Leger. Ahhhh the eighties, gotta love those years!

slightly off the point, but why do some trainers, e.g Dermot Wels and Noel Meade, use sheepskin nose-bands all the time?

If memory serves me right the great millhouse carried his head quite low.

Ian Balding used to say it gave him an advantage in a photo finish, although I’m not sure if this was a joke or not.

I seem to remember that Master Oats had a pretty low head carriage at times and he wore a sheepskin noseband too.
