Can’t agree with you Zoz…the horse is not top drawer, and there’s a £200k pot available. Why not take the chance if the horse is sound ? Tom Scudamore wasn’t hard on the horse once it became apparent that he was being taken off his feet. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

We know he’s a stayer and not a two mile horse but if people on this board are really saying that they wouldn’t have run a healthy horse today, then I don’t think they are being truthful.

I think a lot of the views being put forward here, are being driven by the fact that the trainer’s surname is Pipe.

Completely agree BSB. Lough Derg has run 15 times in the last 15 months, an average of once a month. What’s the accepted frequency for a fit, healthy horse. Are the detractors going to name and shame the trainers of the many other horses who have run many more times than Lough Derg in the last 15 months? Oh no, there name isn’t Pipe!!

It was pretty clear from the way he ran last time out that the horse needs a (long) break. I’ve no problem runnign them often but not when they’re patently out of form and when the purpose is pure and simply a desperate tilt at a pot.

If they run him at Sandown it’ll be nothing more than a disgrace.

LOL Fist shame they didn’t do a Black Jack Ketchum with him. Unfortunately winning involves sacrifices, we are dealing with racehorses not pony’s in a health and fitness field here.

Who is we? you own a horse? I wouldn’t let the Pipes train a pig let alone a horse.

I see Marcel won again as expected for my good buddy Peter Montieth…….2 out of 5…….Pipe 2 out of 19……speaks volumes to me……..No wonder David Johnson moved the horse…..Pipe near knackered the horse running him on firm ground when he was a young horse……..come Cheltenham he was done completely and ran nothing near what he was capable off………recently he ran him 4 times on firm ground which he now hates……Peter has kept him on good and good to soft and the results speak from themselves……there is more to the story but I won’t go into it.

The point is he was a perfectly good horse who Pipe ran the life out of and his form went to hell after…….many others wen’t so lucky and ended up in the knackers yard….Now he’s running the life out of a horse who should have been put away right after Cheltenham if not before.

12 months from now mark my words Lough Derg will be lucky if he has won 1 bad race……….you want to ruin him you do what Pipe is doing…. ….you call it sacrafice I call it stupidity and greed………as far as BJK and Jonjo is concerned I don’t see a connection……….Jonjo cares about his horses and would never do what Pipe is doing. If the owner insisted he would tell him to eff off and take his horse elsewhere. You can take that as gospel.

    Rubbish!!
    Monteith 2 out of 5 = 40%
    Pipe 14 out of 30 = 46.6%

The argument about running a horse often when sound only holds water if the horse is in form and enjoying his racing. Neither apply to Lough Derg at the moment and that was apparent weeks ago at Aintree.

The horse has already won almost 250 grand for his connections, how much more do they want?

It was a sad sight today to see Lough Derg being scrubbed around Ayr. He didn’t deserve that after the return he’s given this season.

It says a lot about the Pipes that would would risk putting a grand horse off the game completely for short term financial gain. Perhaps its also the reason why most of the bigger owners send their horses elsewhere and why David Pipe will always reside in the shadows of Nichols and King.

I sincerely hope this was Lough Dergs last run of the season.

Raff……..My fiugures might be slightly out mate but if you learn to read I was talking about his 16 runs for Pipe after his first season when he ran the horse into the ground..or is that too much for your pea brain to understand !!!!……….cheeky mofo

This is the type of post that really bugs me Sam.

You say he wasn’t hard on the horse……….you must have been at Ayr as he was never in the picture more than a few times…….what I saw was Scu riding him flat out on the final bend and prior to that twice hitting him dull ones on the backside and one across the shoulder. Other than that I couldn’t see the horse he was so far behind……..you Clark Kent by any chance?

It could be however he was not hitting the horse at all………wouldn’t be the first time a jockey pretends to be smacking a horse to keep a very stupid trainer and owner happy…..

A bit rich to call the man who revolutionised the National Hunt game a ‘stupid trainer’.

    Fist –

I would very much prefer it if you showed other forum members a bit of respect. The smileys don’t take the edge off your comments.

I’ve changed my mind about him running again; felt very uncomfortable watching today’s race – will be disappointed if connections do run him again this season. I do understand that it’s good for the moral of the stable staff to achieve things like this [don’t the staff get some of the money as well?] but the moral of the stable should be pretty good after winning the national. Time the old boy had a well earned rest now.

Fist, I’ll learn to read if you learn to spell and also become a better mathematician!
I’ve noticed before how you use insults to cover your obvious lack of racing knowledge. Perhaps why not too many people seem to take you seriously.
I won’t hold my breath until your mate Peter trains a Grand National winner!!

I don’t give a stuff what the trainer’s surname is.

I’d have said the same regardless of who trained the horse.

He seemed to be an improved performer at the start of this season who enjoyed his racing and got good results from being well placed and rewarded connections well.

To my mind, said connections then got greedy and today was a sorry performance for a horse who deserves better.

For a horse to be phsyically sound does NOT mean they are mentally sound and enjoying their work thus does not warrant their being raced just for the fading chance of a big prize.

I understand your concerns Zoz, but the financial incentive of the Order of Merit is such that it isn’t hard to see why connections of a horse just below the upper echelons are doing everything they can to try and win it.

The wrongs and rights of it could be argued into the small hours but as someone who has owned a couple of ‘winning’, but modest horses, 200k is a lot of money, I can see why connections are persevering with a physically sound horse.
