Courage Mon Ami is the play back on a faster surface and York’s long straight will play to his strengths in using his long stride.

    Fixed that for you

B365 are paying 3 places and have Broome at 8-1. Couldn’t beat that with a big stick.

Can’t for the life of me understand why Frankie feels the need to sit that far back of his main rivals….the horse did his running just to get into a challenging position.

The Gold Cup itself was set up for closers to pick up the horses coming back off too strong a pace but Goodwood and even more so today you needed to be more handy and not giving the leaders many lengths headstart at the top of the straight and then having to try to quicken past horses that are quickening themselves.

Hopefully, whoever gets the ride next season (Rab Havlin is unbeaten on him hint hint) will ride him a bit more handily than just assume he needs to be held up way off the pace because that how he won his Gold Cup.

With the distance shorter than the Gold Cup I did think Frankie would be further forward
I guess he could only be thinking that Quickthorn would blast off and the rest would follow and leave it open to a closer

The ride on quickthorn today really confused me, it got the fav beaten anyway, but it also cost him any chance of winning aswell

Goodwood left its mark on him – you could tell early on that they were going to keep much closer tabs on him (like they should have done at Goodwood) and that he wasn’t going to be left to his own devices.

Connections did say beforehand they were worried about what it took out of him last time and bear in mind when he won this last year his previous run was 36 days prior whereas this time he only had 24 days.

Didn’t seem to have the enthusiasm he had last time today

Likely took a lot out of him at goodwood

You could tell after 200 yards he wasn’t in the same mood as it took him a good while to get to the front

He’s a very up and down horse

I’m not sure they actually kept closer tabs on him, he just wasn’t on a going day
