    Hi Clive,

If you’re looking for a place that serves food, here is a place in Covent Garden I particularly like.

    http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/ … ent_Garden

It’s all seating, and they have an area upstairs which we could book (big plus). All tables can be reserved, but it is very much a pub, not a restaurant, although a lot of people eat when there. Good food, but it’s the extensive choice of European beers which is fantastic.

Central location, good atmosphere and the fact we could book tables a plus. Maybe have a look at reviews and let me know what you think.

I’d love to know whether it’s named after either the old halfcab double-decker bus built by Albion in the 1960s, or else the Brendan Powell-trained gelding that would barely go a yard for Guy Opperman in hunter chases last season.

    What do you mean, neither?

I should be around in either case, subject to a clear run down the A40…

Regarding the TRF evening, do we have any idea of numbers? I have spoke with the manager at the Lowlander, and firstly, we can only book if we are eating – is that definitely the case?

Secondly, there is a minimum spend of £400 for the entire party if we want to book the upstairs section. However, we can book a table for upto 15 downstairs (again, if we are eating).

So, who is interested (reply here or send me a PM), and thoughts on the above please. 8)

If you are looking for a pub in that area that will reserve space without having to eat you could try The Captains Cabin just off the top of Haymarket and about 2mins from Piccadilly Circus. I know they will reserve space usually upstairs. It is only a suggestion as I do not if you definitely want a meal.

    Lekha

Not that I’m an expert on the subject,……by a long way, but I suspect you might have more luck travelling to Reading rather Newbury.

Best of luck with the new job.
