Anyone here a member of this club? Just became aware of it today and was wondering if it was worth joining or going to the meetings
Being stuck in London, it’s not the easiest way to find people with a racing interest
Or anyone know of worthwhile clubs in the area?
Cheers!
January 20, 2008 at 23:54 #136674I’m not a member, having moved down a couple of years ago and had my hands too full most of the time.
However, I would like to draw your attention to the likelihood of a TRF get-together somewhere fairly Central in London in the week before Cheltenham: details to follow.
You are more than welcome to come along to that!

January 21, 2008 at 07:04 #136691If you live anywhere near London it is well worth joining.
I used to be a member but the train journey up to London got the better of me in the end. (I dont know how those people do it 5 days a week for year after year must just be the money).
You can go along as a guest to start out and the Cheltenham preview is always a good one to go to.
I dont know if Mike Quigley is still involved much but hard to find a punter more clued up than he is.January 21, 2008 at 08:46 #136696I am a member. Here is a link to the LRC home page http://www.uk-jumping.com/londonrc.htm. Membership is £10/year, regular meetings (usually top name speakers), newsletters and the occasional day at the races. Well worth the money if you live in or near London.

The, er, week before Cheltenham, KT. Wednesday March 5th is the current favourite, but I wanted a bit more time to elapse before firming up details. Besides anything else, I can’t seem to find a suitable venue in the general Kings X/Holborn/Covent Garden area…
January 21, 2008 at 12:04 #136729Can’t comment on the London Racing Club but I can recommend the Bedfordshire Racing Club.
I spoke to their members at their Breeders’ Cup preview evening and they have a good, knowledgeable group. Howard Wright invites speakers (Mike de Kock had done the one before me) and moderates the discussions. They have had an interesting rota of guests over the years as well as trips to the races etc.

I was in this one briefly at Xmas. Nice Soho pub but possibly a bit small. Easy to find though

This one is very central and was very nice and had a bit of space (on a wednesday evening too).

I knew that
I just didn’t know the date
being out here in the sticks
Hmmmmm I am in London for March 7 and 8 (well in the afternoon and out the following afternoon. Literaly a flying visit.
January 21, 2008 at 14:41 #136770It’ll be a shame if our paths don’t cross, KT. Not out of the question that this could take place on the 7th, but it’s a bit tricky to find anywhere with a bit of space/quiet on a Friday night in central London.
Clivex, do you fancy deciding on the venue and I’ll make my mind up about the date before the end of this month? I certainly don’t want to monopolise the organising side of such an occasion!!
January 21, 2008 at 14:42 #136772I’m not a member of the LRC but I have attended their Cheltenham Preview evening on a number of occasions in the past few years. Usually a big crowd and an enjoyable/informative night.
January 21, 2008 at 14:45 #136773Ok Pru!
I will have a quick look at the White Horse on way home tonight. See if its still ok. Would be a very easy one for everyone to get to. Very near Piccadilly and Leicester Square tubes

We’ll catch up one day!
That Friday night I am engaged – so unless we meet between 11 and 1pm in the pub on Saturday I can’t go!!
Lots of time though when I get back permanently – or until I move on again. It’s the gypsy blood I have in me, I can’t help it
January 21, 2008 at 21:40 #136882Cheers guys!
Ya i think I might join up or go along to the Cheltenham preview night at least. 10quid isn’t gonna break the bank
January 21, 2008 at 22:00 #136884Oooo – now I’m gonna be a southerner does that mean I can come along to the southern meetups?
Yay!January 21, 2008 at 22:39 #136899As far as I know, there is an "open-door policy", lekha. Would be good to have you along.
January 22, 2008 at 10:26 #136943Checked the White Horse in Soho again
Its got an upstairs bar which didnt seem to busy. Its a typical small atmospheric west end boozer, which being bang in theatreland (verye asy to find) avoids braying office crowds. One drawback could be the lack of food, but plenty of options nearby (Eds easy diner for one)
