Always stick with your instinct! The Sussex Stakes form holds up nicely, but yes, I’m inclined to agree. He’ll come on a load for the run, but whether he can beat Goldikova, hmmmm, I don’t know.

As with Frankel, the question here for Canford Cliffs is How Far.

Probably not much, given Hughes will be tanking all over the field and playing late, so that market could be worth a look.

    9/4 for up to 1.5L

Canford is a nice horse and good for Coolmore but i would think Frankel would be well odds on in a match bet…1/3?. The Sussex could be some race this year if Goldikova comes

Excellent win but not nearly as impressive as he’d need to be against Frankel for mine. CC should progress plenty for that though. Good run as I expected from the Italian. He’s a nice horse. Dick Turpin obviously needs easier going and class. Twice Over run off his feet against Worthadd.

If anyone doubts the quality of the result then think about the fact the Italian could have stayed home tomorrow for an easy 100K collect. He helped his stud career a lot more than that at Newbury though.

Worthaad ran a lovely race though and I thought at the one pole he might fight it out, but to be fair Canford woke up then and did the job.

If the mare has trained on again I think she will have him though.

Mile division this season is so exciting! DIck Turpin validated my earlier argument that his win to run ratio is G1s is appalling. His overall form and rating has been flattered by those two wins over Canford.

Twice Over will struggle to win anything at G1 level this year in my opinion.

I disagree strongly with all the views.Firstly Moore had DT too far off the pace and secondly his form is 1 gr1 win,2 gr2 wins,a gr3 win,4 times gr1 placed, including in two classics, and he’s beaten eight or ten gr 1 winners in those races. If thats the form of an overated horse im a monkey. When Hughes rides him hes a way better horse, and id expect that will be the case from now on as they wont run against Canford Cliffs again.

its ok saying the performance wasn’t impressive, but he still beat the field easily.

the horse hasn’t run since last july, comparing the horses ability in that race with frankels guineas performances etc is stupid.

like hannon said, the horse will come on for it. me personally would be suprised if frankel would be much shorter than evens if thay meet in the st james palace let alone 1/3.

Canford Cliffs is never going to win by far, but once he exerts his authority inside the final furlong he wins with any amount in hand.

He travels as well as anything I’ve ever seen over the distance, and Frankel will not be able to take this chap out of his comfort zone in the same manner he did to inferior colts at Newmarket – many of whom will develop into middle distance performers.

Connections of Frankel will have to get their tactics just right if they want to beat the four-time Group One winner. If they adopt similar tactics at Goodwood, Richard Hughes will just sit quietly in Frankel’s slipstream, slowly building some momentum before attacking late on.

I wonder how often – and by how far – Canford Cliffs beats up on Dubawi Gold at home?

Of course, Goldikova will be his next big challenge in the Queen Anne. Taking into consideration the proximity of Paco Boy to the french mare in the same race last year, one would have to assume that his superior ex-stablemate should should pose more of a threat this time around.

He will improve for the run and has certainly strengthened up over the winter. He settles very well and is almost certainly tactically verstaile.

The best is yet to come from him…Godolphin probably have the same opinion of Worthadd – "Can you make the cheque payable to Scuderia Incolinx. That’s S-C-U…"

Who’s comparing him to the Guineas run of Frankel? Are you just making that up? I believe anyone has a pretty narrow view if the Guineas is all they judge Frankel by. His demolition of fields has been repeated more than once already, both from the front and from an early hold up position.

If Frankel and CC turn up in the same race at all this year, with both still in their current form, Frankel will definitely go off odds on. I’d bet big money on it and wouldn’t have too many genuine takers.

LOL. How sad but true. I bet Frankel will enjoy having him as a lead pony in races even more than CC did today.

Dave Dark, the fact you have to use Gr2 and Gr3 wins to support your argument in favour of Dick Turpin suggests it is not a strong one.

No disrespect intended but I think the horse is overrated.

I’ll sit here and say i don’t like the flat till i’m blue in the face, but i LOVE dick Turpin, really impressed me at sandown and similar run must give him a chance?!

I wouldn’t put money on it but worthadd could be one to keep an eye on too.

Good post, Emmy .. yes, we all love DT .. he ‘didn’t’ but Worthadd certainly ‘did’ ..

For his first run of the season, Canford Cliffs did it well enough without being overly impressive. Considering he looked burly in the paddock, I’m sure he will improve.

I think Henry Cecil put Twice Over in the race partly to test the water, as it were.

That said, I’m sure the master of Warren Place saw nothing which will overly concern him about Frankel’s chances of defeating Canford Cliffs, should the two meet in the Sussex Stakes.
