I’m considering doing this for the first time – like anything in betting, does anyone consider this MOSTLY successful? I know you have to join Betfair and they take a cut, but asides from that, has anyone ideas, tried and tested, and any FREE laying tips service on the ‘net/wherever would be a bonus – thanks!

Not truly appreciating the mechanics of laying, this thread got me wondering whether, as a layer, is it better to have more or fewer competitors in the market? If the latter, would it make sense to be teaching the ropes to newbies? Perhaps my brain isn’t in full gear today and the answer is staring me in the face.

More competitors would most likely result in tighter margins. On that basis it’s best to have fewer competitiors.

Turning the argument round to backing. If you want to back a horse you really want fewer people interested in backing it then you can get longer odds.
