What an absolutely stupid comment Richard

Read the exchange and answer point by point

    Of course you can’t

Moehat. The worst case scenario of getting on a plane is being incinerated as it burst into flames as it crashes into a mountain

And that’s the only scenario you tell a first time flyer?

    Cork is right.

Anyone else noticed on the bbc (and elsewhere) whenever there is positive news (ie the strong on the ground opinions of Coetzee, who’s arguably the worlds leading omnicron medic ) it’s always “too early to say” but when it’s laughable finger in the air “modelling” by some creepy anorak in front of a spreadsheet it’s a “fact”

And it wasn’t a spectator article. It was an personal exchange on Twitter

You didn’t even pick that up even though it’s staring in face.

    Embarrassing

Sage are a bunch of lefties who want us locked down perm, egged on by most of the hysterical mainstream media

Our govt just go along blindly

    Up to now

We have to stop this NOW otherwise we will be in this recurring nightmare every single year

Labour love a socialist regime. They will back them

I’m not sure where I said there was anything wrong with the interview. I was making a general point about all news and politics publications in response to a general comment about The Spectator.

Anyway there’s f all any of us can do about what Sage says and how the government and media interpret that. Just crack on as best you can. If that means wearing a mask occasionally then fine. Vaccine passports, don’t care either way. Do they make much difference? Maybe, maybe not. Do I care if I need to show it? No.

Ok but why make the point about the spectator ? Doesn’t matter now anyway

I have no problem with some restrictions but we have a right to object to being grossly misled.

Agree to some extent ricky. Sage will only see through their own prism and that should be managed by the gov

Vaccine passports are a direct imfringement on your human rights

If you dont care you sign away those rights

We need to care and have those laws reversed

‘Sage are a bunch of lefties who want us locked down perm, egged on by most of the hysterical mainstream media’

It’s always the lefties isn’t it? We’ve had a right wing government for over a decade. Plenty of countries in Europe with more restrictions than us are governed by right wing parties, some even further right than the Tories.

If there is say a 20% chance of Omicron being ok…

And a 20% chance of Omicron being extremely bad…

And a 60% chance of somewhere between the two…

The 20% chance of it being ok does not matter one little bit when it comes to what the government actually has to do.

Government need to prepare for something near the worst case scenario. Otherwise if something like the worst case scenario happens it will be multiple times worse than it would’ve been with even just adequate preparation.

It’s not 20%. It’s 100% in South Africa so it’s hardly going to be 20% with our heavily vaxed population is it?

I just don’t understand why people continually ignore what the south African medics say. Do people wallow in negativity and run around with fingers in ears at the hint of good news ?

If we prepared for “every worst case scenario” in life, we would never get out of bed

It also assumes that “preparing” has no down side.

The downside of lockdown is massive

    Waste of time clive

The perps do not listen. Do not want to listen and just want lockdown

Perps are. Gamble. Red Rum. Davies and Gt

I exclude moe on the basis that she at least questions things

    Not sure about Dicky

Lockdown kills more than Covid ever will

As I’ve said before our immunity is vaccine based and South Africa’s is infection based. So, until Omicron is the dominant virus (which it almost is) and we’ve had @ 3 weeks to see if patients become hospitalised in the 2nd/3rd week we have to be very careful. I am hopeful that it will turn out to be mild but I’m not banking on it. So, until I can see which way this is going I’m staying out at home. We also need to be sure that Omicron has wiped out Delta because we don’t want them running side by side. If I’m going to catch one I know which one I want to catch!

Of course we should not go through life preparing for the “every worst case scenario” and not what I said a near worst case scenario either. In all bar one or two questions we can ignore the near worst case scenario because it rarely happens but ALSO because the consequences of that near worst case are not that terrible.

However, in the case of covid / omicron if ignoring this near worst case scenario it could cost many tens of thousands of lives, perhaps hundreds of thousands.

…And don’t be stupid, everyone knows there will be a downside. Downside because there will be deaths and others having health problems due to restrictions. But your way would’ve brought a much bigger downside, being even worse for both economy, NHS and deaths.

What you don’t seem to realise is if there would’ve been no lockdown far more workers would’ve caught covid and been off for longer. Economy at a standstill for longer without a lockdown than it was with lockdown. Especially with far more doctors and nurses off work with covid and nobody to treat the ill and dying. In reality no lockdown would in all probability have eventually brought… lockdown.

Ricky, (or Tank as the case maybe) I do question somethings, like your ignorance. By the way hope your right about Covid, but I think those who lost love ones deserve more respect either way.
