Amazing, a UK flat jockey gets around £230 per ride. Live within ones means..
I wonder if this episode influenced the USA decision.March 13, 2025 at 15:38 #1723518I guess it did, Landafar. He was gone too fast and had no intention to return to riding even at Royal Ascot the year after.

Not yet they don’t – this is the latest figure, with that update being from Feb this year:
“The BHA Board has subsequently determined that riding fees shall increase by 3.0% from 1st February, which means that the amount payable to Flat jockeys will increase from £162.79 to £167.67”
The figure you quote applies to jump jockeys (£227.92 per ride). Who oddly also get that sum for riding in a NH flat race!
And from that, he’ll pay 10% to his valet and 10% to his agent.
But riding fees would be small beer to a jockey at his level anyway. His prize money share and his shares in stallions that he rode to Group 1 wins would be his major source of income. It was non declaration of the latter that led to Lester having similar problems with the Revenue men.
