Surely between the front two in the market, but at the prices, drawn to two old favourites in Conflated and Delta Work
Conflated is high on my shortlist for The Charlie Hall, so focussing on Delta Work just now.
Not bet him yet. For all he’s won round here, his record in this race is poor, he’s getting on, and no real sign that he’s heading here, but at 16’s, as unwise as it looks like now, I’m tempted.
Delta Work
October 29, 2024 at 22:48 #1711187Did Visionarian in a related ew double with French Dynamite for the Charlie Hall just for an interest. Not all firms have a book for this Grade 1 yet, 4 days beforehand 🫤
October 31, 2024 at 12:54 #1711260Taken 20’s on Delta Work, worked out well holding off, and I reckon the 6’s is too big for Hewick too.
Happy to have an interest on the pair of them. Delta Work I could see going bigger again, and I’d probably have small top up
Top up confirmed
Delta Work 25’s EW
Hewick 6’sOctober 31, 2024 at 14:46 #1711264GaG, I almost bet Visionarian as well, as this race can throw up some strange. But in the end I’ve settled on Envoi Allen at 3/1
November 1, 2024 at 17:03 #1711353Took the 6s on Hewick as he was way overpriced. He’s still too big at 5s.
Conditions should be perfect for him so if he brings his Punchestown form, he should go very close.
November 1, 2024 at 19:55 #1711373Delta Work almost did me a favour at Aintree and on that form would have a squeak (if only a squeak). But is rarely at his best first time out and / or this time of the year. Very much doubt connections will be having him in A1 condition until April anyway. Worth keeping an eye on the market, but unless there’s a market move in his favour is imo one to oppose even at 20/1+.
Visionarian has an awful lot to find on form. Won a three runner race last time out but was the only one to jump anything like well enough. Maybe if it quickens up even further…? Brighterdaysahead beat the Racing Post Standard time today, so it’s pretty quick. Will the others act on it? Visionarian goes well on a sound surface – and so he should – with a flowing action. But also has distance issues. In 23 starts has never raced at 3 miles and speed seems his asset at 2 1/2. That said, there isn’t a natural front runner in the field. Even if on form he’s outclassed… if they go extremely slow might have more speed than the others. Trouble with that is Delta Work and Hewick are stayers at 3m. They’d have absolutely no chance in a sprint. Gigginstown may not mind, but suspect Hewick’s connections will want a fairly decent pace… (IF it’s not just a prep for defending his Kempton crown?). Hewick is capable of making his own running and if he’s to be fully effective on this ground at 3 miles will need to set a very strong pace. However, I still believe he was only the fourth best horse in the King George. Shishkin would’ve won had he not tipped up after 2 out. Bravemansgame and Allaho quickening too soon and having nothing left to fend off the held up (flattered?) Hewick. To my mind the 4/1 or 9/2 is woefully short.
So this will imo end up a two horse race. If it was on softer I’d be more keen on Gerri Colombe even at odds-on. His best is better than Envoi Allen’s. However, Gerri was only a neck to the good of Allen in this last year on softer going. Gerri improved afterwards and Allen didn’t. Although did run well in the Ryanair. Hopefully he’s over whatever ailed him at Aintree – trailed in. Gerri isn’t devoid of speed at the trip but seemed to thrive on his final two starts with more emphasis on stamina than is likely to get here. Was that a coincidence? Allen has the 2 1/2 mile speed.
I’ve backed Envoi Allen @ 100/30 with a saver on Gerri Colombe @ 10/11.
Value Is EverythingNovember 1, 2024 at 21:38 #1711388Hewick for me as well. Geri Colombe wasn’t too convincing here last year and that was on softer ground. Hewick on good ground and a prep run must have a decent chance here.
Hewick 5/1
November 2, 2024 at 13:38 #1711501Market suggests connections of Envoi Allen aren’t sure he’s over whatever ailed him at Aintree.
Value Is EverythingNovember 2, 2024 at 15:15 #1711518Well done Autumnal and GT. Eldest daughter insisted I back Hewick and she was very pleased with his run.
November 2, 2024 at 15:19 #1711520Played Envoi so happy bunny , Gerri while sure to come on for it does look a slow boat though
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 2, 2024 at 15:20 #1711521What a great race Hewick really went down fighting.

November 2, 2024 at 21:51 #1711609Nice battle between Hewick and Envoi Allen.
