Deserves a thread of his own.
Given an interesting ride at Newcastle yesterday.
Has only won one race, when with his previous yard, holding Abduction with ease.
Abduction is currently rated 86, kraken Power 52. They are now both in the same yard.
On yesterday’s run alone I’d conservatively rate Kraken power in the mid seventies.
His next run will be very interesting indeed, now his ability is in the public domain.

Just watched the ride given to Kraken Power by Paul Mulrennan yesturday, if I’d backed the horse I would have been absolutely fuming, such a blatant one, jockey did everything he could to ensure the horse had no chance of winning, scandalous. Happens every race though so we shouldn’t be surprised.

Like you said though definitely a horse to keep on side!

“Jockey did everything he could to ensure the horse had no chance of winning.”

It is not the first time it has happened with this particular jockey either, in my opinion.

“Took keen hold, prominent, going easily 2f out, short of room and lost position over 1f out, pushed along 1f out, stayed on final 110yds, eyecatcher (jockey said having travelled well through the race he found himself stuck behind horses with no room to manoeuvre, having to take off heels for a sustained period, losing both momentum and ground and finding himself further back than he wanted; trainer confirmed the instructions that he wanted to get a lead, to get the gelding settled and to give cover due to the strong head winds today, which was noted)”

An odd looking ride. The horse has been with Goldie a while – 15 runs for him, so unless something has changed, they should have known his ability level by now. Whether the ride was by design (horse was fav, after all) or just poor anticipation from PM, who knows? If he had sat, Minhaaj dropping away on his outside would have given him a gap in good time.

“Jockey said having travelled well through the race he found himself stuck behind horses with no room to manoeuvre.”

Not the first time he has used that excuse, either.

It was indeed an interesting ride.

I had noticed that Kraken Power had appeared to have been an unlucky horse in recent races and had put him on my list of horses to follow on the naïve assumption that he couldn’t keep being unlucky.

Bearing in mind my utterly wasted research and wager on Kraken Power, I am grateful to the stewards for enquiring into the running and riding of him yesterday and noting the explanations given; I dread to think what it must be like to be on the receiving end of an “explanations were noted.”

Paul Mulrenhan only shook him up and started riding him once he had dropped back to last place and when he started slicing through the field Paul Mulrenhan never gave an ounce of encouragement to Kraken Power to run on at the finish.
Why were the Stewards so blind?

Mulrennan is sponsored by RTV and his wife works for ITV Racing.

I wonder why the racing media does not want to talk about the ride? ;-)

It’s very rare I subscribe to the view that a particular horse is ‘unlucky’.For whatever reason they aren’t good enough or maybe even a plots afoot.
One’s then wed to the idea that this horse’s ready to win and should be followed, how many times subsequently does it become unlucky and take your money?
Since the geldings sole win in a Hamilton maiden (June 2020) he’s run mainly in sprints but was even tried in a 2m handicap and raced off various marks from the mid 80’s to his present one in the low 50’s.
The problem we have as punters is knowing when to put the money down and he’s going to win?
    good luck to all

Chezza believes racing is completely straight.

But, just in case it isn’t, Chezza never bets on: maidens still needing more qualifying runs for a mark, most Class 4, 5 and 6 handicaps and virtually all Irish races below pattern grade.

    Hope that helps.

Back to 5f, over which he has run 11 without being placed. JG has had 44 runners in the last 3 months with 1 winner – 10th October. I make it 6 rides Mason has had – no winners, though shortest price was 8/1.

Having watched the finish of his last 3 races

He just looks like another strong travelling low grade handicapper that doesn’t find very much for pressure

He’s finished 2nd or 3rd 9 times, only won once

Wouldn’t back him with monopoly money

He’s never even placed in a 5f race

Must be something worth backing against him

One of Indian sounds or modular magic maybe

    Thanks Joe, 6 is correct.
I thought I was on all time but the 3 runs for Mason were the last 12 months.

The 2/1 just before my post earlier has gone, top price 6/4 now
If he goes odds on, I’ll be looking at a place lay
