Well deserved win as it was I just can’t see him being good enough to win an Arc (really feel for the injured Martin Dwyer his regular jockey missing out) – Mishriff cost himself tactically at the start but he looks like (as it did last year) the last 2F on this course were a step too far.
Torquator Tasso really surprised me with that run on that ground as I felt he needs it with soft in the description – could well see him being a threat if we get another soft/heavy ground Arc. Would imagine Sir Mark with Alpinista will be pleased with his run too.
Westover, sweating between the back legs before the start (never a positive sign) and you pretty much knew your fate after the first downhill 2F as he pulled far too hard – jockeys lack of experience on the course maybe a factor
Broome put in his place as usual when in against the very top horses and I would think he could mop up a lot of the lesser G1s around Europe if campaigned that way.
Emily Upjohn too bad to be a true reflection of her talent.
July 23, 2022 at 15:52 #1608240Also it’s a massive shame Hukum got injured.
July 23, 2022 at 15:54 #1608241They may be tempted with Vadeni now following this, coupled with the Desert Crown situation. Very open division. TT’s connections will be delighted, even ignoring the ground they’ll be working up towards Arc day fitness/prep wise. Plenty more to come from him.
July 23, 2022 at 15:57 #1608243Pyledriver has not got the breeding but has excellent conformation and action.
Value Is EverythingJuly 23, 2022 at 16:01 #1608244I thought a Westover defeat today would mean he goes for the leger.
But after being too free at 12f, that seems less likely now.Value Is EverythingJuly 23, 2022 at 16:02 #1608245Hes absolutely beautiful, ginge…

July 23, 2022 at 16:04 #1608246Congrats, HDLG. Nice price, best on the day won!
July 23, 2022 at 16:22 #1608254Thanks Turko , the 2nd def has a chance of a repeat arc win but I won’t be playing anything there yet , Pyledriver def isn’t the best bred horse out there , he,s the boy from the scheme come good ….
July 23, 2022 at 17:05 #1608257Mishriff might need a new jockey and Colin Keane is a solid 0 from 48 at Ascot with a 2nd and two 3rd places over the past five years.
If Ruby had the same stats at Cheltenham how many times would he have ridden for Willie?
I’m not saying this because Rob Hornby lost the ride on Westover, but it’s also a bit of an insult to British-based jockeys, if none of them comes into the equation of riding the horse at Ascot.July 23, 2022 at 17:51 #1608264“I thought a Westover defeat today means he goes for the Leger. What distance would you fancy him over Ginger based on today’s effort? The Leger seems the obvious target, obviously you would want him much more settled and dropped in. Softer ground wouldn’t necessarily be a negative although stamina could be but you may have to take a chance on something.
July 23, 2022 at 18:01 #1608267Absolutely delighted on so many fronts. First of all the connections of pyledriver. just thrilled for them especially for pj mcdonald. Feel for martin dwyer though. Great run by the second. Must be an ew certainty in the arc. And lastly delighted that after the jockeys nonsense mishriff and westover got stuffed. Please stop this constant sacking of jockey. Bar soumillion or ortazibal it never seems to pay to change jockeys. Three year old form looking decidedly shaky and coolmore with luxembourg and vadenis team must be very encouraged by what happened.just a lovely racing moment.👍
July 23, 2022 at 18:42 #1608270I just love results like this. Gorgeous horse.
July 23, 2022 at 19:03 #1608272mickeyjp, the jockey change on Pyledriver was successful. Horses won’t know why the jockey has been changed.
He travelled like a dream although the race fell apart for various reasons.July 23, 2022 at 19:19 #1608274Over the two days of the Ascot meeting, this was the only race to go quicker than the standard time, which says it all about the suicidal early pace.
July 23, 2022 at 19:45 #1608275“I thought a Westover defeat today would mean he goes for the leger.
But after being too free at 12f, that seems less likely now.”They have to still go for the St Leger. Where else can he go? It is difficult to fancy him for the Arc after that run and they are not going to go down in distance.
The second favourite in the Leger market only won a handicap at Newmarket last time and the third favourite was well behind Westover at Epsom.
I think we can assume Westover will get a better ride at Doncaster if he runs. There is no way he will be allowed to go off as fast. Also, there must be a good chance that Hornby will be back on board. The St Leger clashes with Irish Champions weekend, so I think we can safely assume that Keane will be at Leopardstown.
July 23, 2022 at 20:47 #1608282Yeats the point i was making, like many many others,is constant changes of jockey after a perceived bad ride. Pj mcdonald was aboard pyledriver due to martin dwyer being injured. Mishriff and westovers musical chairs was just ridiculous as it was totally unnecessary on both counts. A jockey only makes a tiny difference to a races outcone. Pyledriver was on his a game today and as nathan said on the pyledriver thread he jinked noticably but got home something martin dwyer got criticised for in the leger.
I can understand when your getting lester or pat eddery as the owner wanted the best but nobody is remotely close to these two greats of the turf. What do the owners who changed jockeys do now. Their decisions looked stupid at the time and even more so now. Im sure messrs egan and hornby will be having a wry smile at events.July 23, 2022 at 21:29 #1608285Am I under the wrong impression that a lot of Gosden’s horses tend to miss the break?
