Colin Keane Ascot.
O/46.
Course specialist over in Ireland. Given the ride for that reason.
Grateful for a telephone conversation with the previous jockey on how to ride the horse.
Why is he here?
Nathan’s “you’re not getting on no plane fool” scenario surely should be playing out at Dublin airport tonight.
Having said that, this is a very good opportunity to improve on that little statistic.July 22, 2022 at 20:51 #1608095I was a bit surprised Hornby wasn’t jocked back up for this as he has proven recently what he’s about but it’s whatever really.
Keane generally rides well at Ascot imo, it doesn’t help that he rides for Ger Lyons as his record bringing over horses to the UK is plain bad.
I think you are on a cracking 4/1 FF, good luck. I’ll put him in a Beckett double with Lezoo at 150.July 22, 2022 at 20:59 #1608097The owners clearly don’t rate Rob hornby and want Keane on
That was the case in the Irish Derby but the owners representative didn’t have the balls to say so
July 23, 2022 at 08:13 #1608136Ill need to be against the 3yo form here
The alpinista/torquator form i thought last season was a joke, but turns out i was well wrong there, so will have to back the german today at 10/1, id throw an e/w chance at broome at 20/1 aswell
I like emily the least
July 23, 2022 at 08:43 #1608140Likely to be a very tactical affair and
James Doyle riding Mishriff gets the vote.
Ryan Moore on Broome can get into the places.
The fact that connections (lied openly) about replacing the now sacked jockey and have retained Colin Keane shows there is no sentiment where money is concerned. This could be Keane’s big break over here on a horse connections ( who don’t train horses by the way) feel is a steering job. If Keane doesn’t get the job done will they sack him too?July 23, 2022 at 09:55 #1608148He’s not been sacked, he still rides for them as do many others. Hornby, Dettori, Moore and Probert have been on recently.
Keane, by far and away, rides the most horses for Juddmonte. They may be looking at future international dates e.g. Arc, Breeders Cup so keeping to the one jockey is the way to go.
Either way, I’d still be backing the horse for today’s race.July 23, 2022 at 10:13 #1608150Would like to see ‘Tasso confirm his Arc form here but, unfortunately, the ground may be against him as his best runs are on soft, good/soft…
On the other hand, Broome will relish the conditions and the ground may carry his speed all the way to the finish.
July 23, 2022 at 10:20 #1608151“Lied and sacked” are a little over the top, and as you say he is still retained. But jocked off is a fact and a harsh reality of any sport. I’d rather these decisions were left to the trainer who might like to get behind a lad who has thrown in two group 1 wins since.
July 23, 2022 at 10:47 #1608157Nonsense keane is on westover. Hope he gets beat by a nose. As for the race it is wide open in my eyes. I can make a case for all six but ill say mishriff wont win unless its a dawdling pace. Cant see that happening though. Dont think ryan will lead on broome but will try and sit second. Should be fascinating tactically and if broome does get an easy lead then we could have another highland reel in the breeders cup. Broome to be in the first two as he will probably find one too good. Love to see the arc winner win but the ground is against him.
July 23, 2022 at 10:51 #1608160Can’t see Broome getting an easy lead, mickey. If he goes on, I’d imagine Westover will sit at his quarters to keep the pace honest.
July 23, 2022 at 11:35 #1608165With Moore on Broome the most likely to go forward this entire race will be shaped by whether there’s another prepared to race prominently.
If say Dettori rides Emily Upjohn on his quarters will Moore be happy to concede the pace?
I can see a scenario with Moore reining his horse back sitting second and striking from a fair distance out, trying to run the finish out of the others.
With Desert Crown missing this and the International at York …. Stoute on a mission for another Arc?
good luck to allJuly 23, 2022 at 13:15 #1608192Pyledriver and westover will want to race prominently I’d think
And I’m hoping Keane sits second and strikes for home nice and early like you suggest Moore should do
July 23, 2022 at 14:09 #1608205Broome is often slowly away and yet probably best racing prominently. In that respect helped last time out by being drawn high. Able to stay out wide until getting that front posi’. Now drawn 1, so if slowly away today may find it difficult to come around the whole field.
Westover may need to make his own running. Given his action there’s a chance Westover will be unsuitrd by firmish going. On times the ground at Epsom was between Good-firm and good, so this is probably the firmest he’s faced. Not saying he won’t act on it, just there is a chance. Then there’s the fact he hasn’t (yet) got the best form in the race. All suggests to me 7/4 is too short.
The German horse has Arc form but is in all probability best on a softer surface.
Pyledriver may be good enough to pick up a poor Group 1, but his ability is measured off and unless he gets a lot of luck in running does not look good enough.
The Gosdens have two last time out Group 1 “winners” without being winners. Mishriff should have won the Eclipse with a clear run. His International Stakes is the best form of any of these and is certain to act on the ground. Bit disappointing in this race last year and quite possible 10f suits him best, but at 10/3 worth finding out.
Emily Upjohn has a bit to find on form but she’s an enormous filly who hasn’t had many races, so has a hell of a lot of scope for further improvement. Hasn’t run on officially good-firm yet, but her action suggests that won’t be a problem. Again 10/3 worth taking. Question for me is who to make the main bet.
Have backed Emily with a saver on Mishriff.
Value Is EverythingJuly 23, 2022 at 14:36 #1608210Can see ryan not going to the front till five out then kicking. Broome stays well and the other jocks will need to be careful om this ground not to give him a few lengths start. Ryan masterclass incoming.🤣
July 23, 2022 at 14:43 #1608213Broome will make it (Pyledriver up there maybe?), Westover will follow and kick in the straight and up to the the rest to pass him. Which they won’t i don’t think ;o)
July 23, 2022 at 14:52 #1608214It’s a fascinating race , I’m in the Mishriff camp but don’t discount Pyledriver , both played , really looking forward to it
July 23, 2022 at 15:12 #1608217Plenty of water put on if the International result is anything to go by. That won’t suit Mishriff much over the trip.
