Enjoyable as it was to watch, did we actually learn much from that race, other than Conduit was clearly in good heart when cuffed in the Eclipse?

I would love it if Tartan Bearer won a Group 1 someday.

I love that horse to bits.

    Great run by Conduit.

    Who’s your Daddy, Tartan Bearer?

Conduit can now add the King George to his victories in the St Leger and Breeders Cup. What a horse! I hope connections keep him in training again next year – looks like a horse that will continue to improve.
A nice performance? Yes, but I think both Fame and Glory and Sea The Stars will have his beating at Longchamp. The former is a worthy favourite.

Golden Sword is a nice colt, but I watched him with a view to the St Leger and I think he’s a weak favourite for the race. He’ll find a few too good at Doncaster, in my opinion.

Look Here failed to run up to her Coronation Cup form and it will be interesting to see where she goes from here. Will connections fancy taking on Sariska at York?

And a big well done to Sir Michael Stoute. Great training performance.

We learned that Sir M wasn’t sure if Conduit had quite reached his peak for this race. I hope that Conduit goes on to even greater successes. What a trainer of older horses SMS is, but surprised to hear on the BBC that his original plan was to be a commentator.

The run of Tartan Bearer gives Vision D’Etat’s form a boost. I would fancy him against Conduit. Great run by Conduit though, I would have been surprised if he had got beaten.

I thought Tartan Bearer ran a career best. Fantastic race really tough performance from Ask as well who ran as well as he ever has.

Conduit was just that little bit better. I think he has run to a similar level every run this season he’s a model of consistancy and a lovely, genuine group one horse.

Golden Sword didn’t run quite to his best possibly feeling the effects of a couple of hard races but he wouldn’t have been in the first three anyway.

Big disappointment of the race Look Here who only seems to perform at Epsom.

Ryan Moore gets a three day ban on Conduit can someone explain why? Whip in correct hand, what on earth was Moore meant to do? Ludicrous!!

i still think we havent see the best of conduit
he will come at his peak during arc period
today he wasnt 100% for me

another problem he always seems to drift in right handed tracks

If that was run at a fast pace why were the runners on top of each other turning in? They went slowly early, the pacemaker eventually quickened it up but nobody followed him. By the time Golden Sword did chase the pace he had no break on the field and insufficient pace to create one. It looks from the outside as if Ballydoyle actually believed he might have been a 1m2f horse.

There is an argument for saying he is better going left handed so you may be right and Sir Michael seems to think there’s improvment in him.

Well done Michael Stoute, great training performance. I have to say I never really rated Ask before today, but he ran a cracker on ground that might have been a bit too fast for him.

Conduit I have rated at 124, Tartan Bearer and Ask at 121. With so little between them its not surprising they were reasonably close up. I think it was a good honest pace but not a ferocious gallop.

Are you telling us or asking us Friggo?.

SMS clearly stated the horse wasn’t at his best at the Eclipse and whatever he did today he would be a better horse in the Autumn.

There’s way too much Seathestarsitis on here

Seriously though there are a couple of ways at looking at this.

Golden Sword was an AOB outsider for the Derby and it could be he really isn’t that good and was flattered by his proximity to Sea the Stars. If he was then the fact Conduit beat him about 8 lengths today means nothing.

However if he was flattered was Fame and Glory also flattered when he beat Golden Sword? Because if the former is to be believed Fame and Glory has beat sweet nothing in the Irish Derby.

Personally I have never rated Golden Sword very highly and the Derby was a complete farce. My only concern today is AOB would turn this race into a farce as well.

In a normal Derby I doubt if he would have got within 5 or 6 lengths of the winner and all lines through Golden Sword should really be ignored.

Golden Sword has been touted as a St Leger horse for some time now but I’m damned if I can see where people get that from.

I am still not convinced this years crop is that good and there nothing SMS need to fear in the Arc. The outstanding performer has been Sea the Stars and someone should tell Bosranic he won’t run in the Arc

Without being influenced by SMS’s words I thought Conduit still looked a bit undercooked today. He took a bit of time to get into top gear and wasn’t travelling as well as Tartan Bearer coming off the home turn. Once he got going the result was never in doubt and he’s certainly improved ffor the trip and his run in the Eclipse..

I sincerely doubt if Fame and Glory could quite handle him off a strong gallop in the Arc. I’ve always thought he lacks just that little bit of Zip when it comes to finishing speed…Ask has been in top form this year and was beaten 3 3/4 lengths in last years Arc. If SMS is correct and the best is still to come from Conduit he must be a huge threat to all in the Arc. Thankfully I grabbed the 14/1 about him as he is now half those odds and another win like todays and he’ll shorten up even more and it will take a bloody good horse to beat him in France.

Tartan Bearer stayed on better thn I thought he would and got the trip well. I don’t know if he would in a really strong run race but he certainly did today. At first glance I thought he tried to bite Ask but when I looked again it was Conduit’s backside that smcked him on the nose and threw his head to the side. RM got a harsh ban as Ian points out.

If that’s the case, then this Conduit is a serious, serious horse (His previous performances might have hinted at that though).

Oh, I’ve learned that there’s no telling you, Fist.

    One thing, though:

Without being influenced by SMS’s words I thought Conduit still looked a bit undercooked today. He took a bit of time to get into top gear and wasn’t travelling as well as Tartan Bearer coming off the home turn.

Surely that’s totally excusable, if indeed the impression my eyes gave me is true and they didn’t go an end-to-end gallop today. Conduit’s won a St Leger and came off a strong pace in both the BC Turf and Eclipse, whilst Tartan Bearer nearly nicked a modestly-run Derby.

Conduit looked fantastic, Fist, not undercooked in the slightest.
