I’d do the lottery anyone who backed the fav
The second wins if he runs in anything like a straight line
June 17, 2022 at 17:47 #1602813Changingoftheguard won by not running to his best.
Personally think he acts well on good-firm, just that soft ground at 1m4f places more emphasis on stamina. Now for the Leger.
Commiserations All Jeff.
Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2022 at 17:48 #1602814The runner up snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
June 17, 2022 at 17:48 #1602815Wd winners. Hard luck to the backers of the 2nd.
June 17, 2022 at 17:56 #1602818Had the second kept straight he would’ve won.
Had he been upsides Changingoftheguard then Changingoftheguard would’ve fought back and won and / or the temperamental Grand Alliance would’ve shirked it.
Temperament is all part of it.
Visor on the second was there for a reason and personally doubt it will ever run to that rating again.Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2022 at 18:01 #1602820“Changingoftheguard would’ve fought back and won and / or the temperamental Grand Alliance would’ve shirked it.”
Bit of supposition there, I’d say.
You can’t know that for sure, Mystic Meg.
Fair play, you got the winner, but I’d be praying for a wet September in sunny Donny if I were you.

Doesn’t have the class for it
June 17, 2022 at 18:18 #1602825I wouldnt be writing him off altogether yet. He will be suited by the longer distance and this was a quick turnaround from the Derby.
June 17, 2022 at 18:35 #1602828Thats 3 out 3 of winners under 2-1 for AOB. Fill yer boots on Alfred Munnings tomorrow. ;o)
June 17, 2022 at 18:36 #1602829Plus i dont think he was in love with the ground. Btw was it just me or did john magnier walk around the paddock like an old mafia boss. Probably just me 🤣

Of course I don’t “know that for sure”.
It’s my opinion.

Grand Alliance is temperamental. Jockey had to give a reminder halfway just to keep him in touch with the others. Then after gradually getting out on his own in the straight swerved violently. He’ll be rated a squiggle horse next week.
Changingoftheguard is as genuine as they come and doesn’t like being headed.
Therefore I think had they raced together the probability is Changingoftheguard would’ve fought back and / or Grand Alliance would’ve shirked it.
Temperament is imo an under-rated aspect of form that many otherwise good punters don’t allow enough for.

I’m liking this GT posting a lot more than its predecessor – not that it matters what I think
All fair comment, I think.

June 17, 2022 at 23:08 #1602866Did anyone see/hear anything about why they came here not the Queens Vase which would look the more logical route for a Leger horse? Both G2’s, I guess he got a few more days recovery with this. Its obvious they are lacking in the middle distance department by their usual standards on the boys side at least, they didn’t have anything in the POW which I can’t remember ever happening. Broome and High Definition will need luck to win a G1 if they are the leading older brigade, they aren’t good enough on a good day. Newfoundland looked miles away from a group horse in the handicap yesterday.
