First one to jump out for me, and already a proper favourite is The Goffer. Thought he had a decent 22/23 campaign, and I’d be very surprised if he didn’t land a decent prize this term.
Stablemate Salvador Ziggy is already going the right way over fences, and he’s another who looks to have a good season ahead of him. He’s already looking like one of the yards better ones, and although he’s shaping as a potential Brown Advisory contender, I could see him heading for The NH Chase. The yard have plenty of others to choose from here, with Ballykeel the other one who really interests me.
The two “seas”, A Wave Of The Sea, and Born By The Sea, are becoming staples in these races, and I’d give both of them serious chances of making the frame.
Mullins has a couple in there, and though Authorised Art looks the more solid, I just can’t be completely writing off Ciel De Niege either.
Captain Cattistock is not of it, and if he made the journey I’d definitely take note, while I’ve always liked the Cromwell horse Peaches and Cream. He’s very capable of taking a hand if on a going day, and one who might be decent odds.
Won’t be in a mad rush to have an Antepost, as I can’t imagine The Goffer being overpriced, but we’ll see.
The Goffer my main hope right now, with probably A Wave Of The Sea, Ballykeel, and Captain Cattistock not too far behind
The Goffer
Very risky, as he holds a hurdles entry same day, but the 40’s is wrong for Peaches and Cream, so he’s first bet
Peaches and Cream 40’s EW
Edit Final Decs
Still like loads here, but I’d be betting The Goffer anyway, so I’ll give him preference definitely. I’ll decide later if I want EW.
Still keen on the others mentioned, but the only one I’d bet now on top of The Goffer, is Real Steel I’d he sneaked in
The Goffer 16’s
September 11, 2023 at 18:02 #1662681Gevrey, of course, for me- he could do with going up a couple of pounds to make sure of his place in the Grand National
I like Mars Harper too. Authorized Art is a good horse but possibly ground dependent. Amirite must be better than his mark, but I’d like to know what ailed him at the end of last season.
September 17, 2023 at 17:07 #1663475Elliot pretty heavy handed this year.
Ash Tree Meadow and Gevrey for me.
Salvador Ziggy probably in with a big shout also but he may be too inexperienced.
September 18, 2023 at 14:37 #1663540Well done Listowel on attracting as good a field as coule possibly be expected for a handicap chase at this time of year. Who needs a big-headed flat jockey when you can headline with a race this good?
170 Ain’t That A Shame
167 Foxy Jacks
165 Tullybeg
163 Chemical Energy
162 A Wave Of The Sea
159 Authoprized Art
159 Salvador Ziggy
159 GevreyHappy to go with the top two here.
Ain’t That A Shame 9/1 is lightly raced and will be ideally suited by conditions and return after a lay-off isn’t a cause for concern on past evidence.
Foxy Jacks 28/1 would be a lot shorter price for this but for a pulled up at Galway. He reportedly lost his action after 3 out there suggesting he have hurt himself but, assuming no lasting effects, previous form puts him firmly in the picture here.
September 18, 2023 at 16:03 #1663545My 5 places ew 2…
Ain’t That A Shame
GevreySeptember 18, 2023 at 17:38 #1663560Was just looking through a few of them and saw that stumptown ran at Galway in a race I can’t see why he even turned up unless it was to get a run into him before this
I’d also be interested In Chemical energy depending on the ground on the day
Not entirely convinced that Salvador ziggy is well handicapped off 150
If he is then he could be the horse to beat in the national hunt chase
September 18, 2023 at 20:21 #1663569Life In The Park looked a bit unfortunate over 2m 7f in May at Ballinrobe where
there were 5 in a row going to the last when the eventual winner crossed accross
LITP. He didn’t have the time to recover although he ran on well from 5th to take
3rd.Next time out in Kilbeggan in the Midland National in July, the front 2 were given too
much leeway and were never going to get caught, but LITP kept on well without troubling
the 1st and 2nd. I thought he might get dropped a couple of lbs by the handicapper, but
stays on the same 139. The winner Foxy Jacks was put up 6lbs and the 2nd Stealthy Tom
5lbs. Stealthy Tom won next time out and was put up to a further 11 lbs to 140. So he’s
18lbs better in than Stealthy Tom. and 10lbs better off than Foxy Jacks. 10st 10lbs is
the least he’s carried and at 6yrs He could be worth more than thatLife In The Park I took 16 a couple of days on the exchange (generally 12/1 with the
firms)September 20, 2023 at 07:00 #1663717Gavin Cromwell had an across the card four-timer yesterday plus 2nd places from only eight runners. Stumptown would be of interest, but 7/1 is just too short for me.
I’ll go with Foxy Jacks EW at 33s and add A Wave To The Sea at 11/1 and Gevrey at 8/1 both win only.September 20, 2023 at 07:21 #1663719Any thoughts on Captain Cattistock. Besides the trip being on the short side, does he have the class to compete in that kind of race?
September 20, 2023 at 09:17 #1663729What an intriguing race I’ve even bought the RP for the second time in a week.
I am in intense and delicate negotiations with a chap in the newsagents to give me the signpost pages for an undisclosed fee rather than buy the whole thing.
Seriously though, the precipitation means a few chances will be hampered here and the need to flesh out the mud larks may pay dividends.September 20, 2023 at 09:51 #1663732Gevrey and Hurricane Georgie (she has form on soft and stays) ew for me.
Got a treble on Vadsa Queen, Bialystok and Heia earlier too.
September 20, 2023 at 12:06 #1663747With Ash Tree Meadow out due to the ground my main hopes now lie with Gevrey at 16/1 and a few quid on Stumptown also.
September 20, 2023 at 13:11 #1663755Ciel De Neige for me 10s (BOG), with a boost on that price.
Not a bad run in the Galway Plate, and the ground today shouldnt be a problem.
Best of luck to all
September 20, 2023 at 13:43 #1663766A race i was excited about, but it’s taken me a while to get a selection and the prices on the “obvious” have all but gone…
I’ve landed on Desertmore House…Stays well and will handle any ground. I like his beating of My Design a mare i quite like- alright he’ll have to step up again + i don’t see much evidence of him being good left-handed- so that’s a potential concern….Lets see. Just small stakes at this time of year.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!September 20, 2023 at 14:19 #1663774Me too jack for differing reasons one of two bottom weights and reserves. No weight to carry and proven on soft going.
The other bottom weight is the English raider captain cattistock
Both each way.
No winner of this race in double figures age wise for many years I think 2014 and most of this field go the young way. Fact that the top weight is a non runner swings the handicap round in favour of these two and none may get the trip better than the captain having done 31 furlongs in the mud without flinching.
Desertmore house
Captain cattistockSeptember 20, 2023 at 15:20 #1663778With times for the first couple of races indicating genuinely soft ground,I’ve joined Jack and Sam on Desertmore House, which leaves me with 3 ew bets, more than I should really but Paddys offer of 6 places was too good to refuse.
September 20, 2023 at 15:28 #1663781I was quite happy just to stick with Life In The Park, and he’s 10lbs
better off with Foxy Jacks and even though he’s up 11lbs for his 2nd
at Roscommon and his win at Kilbeggan and despite him being pulled up
last time out at Gowran, a course that doesn’t seem to suit him
(pulled up twice and 10th in 3 runs) I can’t see him going off at
66/1 (Paddy Power) who with a boost got me 70/1 6 places. I couldn’t
turn that down.Foxy Jacs 66/1 6 places Paddy Power
