I know nothing about the American form and a glance at the betting suggests it is wide open.

Hills have gone top price of 4/1 against Forte, which I have taken for a token interest. Just hope I can stay awake until 11.57pm!

Tip for staying awake: do not watch the coronation.

I like my USA racing and became a fan of Forte after he win me money when beating the highly-touted Loggins (good Beyer figure on debut) at Keeneland.

He then floored Cave Rock at the Breeders’ Cup.

But he made very heavy weather of winning last time out at long odds-on and, while 9/2 in a place now looks fair, my main bet is on Tapit Trice.

I thought he showed a really good attitude when winning the Bluegrass Stakes and I took 8/1 immediately after the race.

It’s an open race as many haven’t tried 1m2f – and it will be plenty far enough for many on pedigree – but it’s a race I always enjoy.

Disarm for me, because has a nice name and seems like a good boy from videos I’ve seen on Twitter.

The wiseguy horse is Derma Sotogake, however every Japanese horse to try the Derby turned into an absolute headcase in the Derby environment and looking at videos of Derma training this week I don’t think he’s the one to buck the trend.

I suspect both Kingsbarns and King Russell will be bet down lower than they really deserve, we Americans are a superstitious lot. 2O horses and a lot of casual money/people looking to strike it rich on the next Rich Strike-level longshot makes it a good betting race but I can’t make heads or tails of it this year.

Forte scratched. Wild last few days with all the defections.

Wow – glad I only backed him this morning.

Wonder what price Tapit Trice will be now?

Oh well, I got my money back. Which is more than I ever have before on this race!

Put a small amount of my return on Chaldean onto Tapit Trice.

After the 6.56 race, the presenter on Sky Sports racing (I think it was Anthony Ennis) was very critical of the ride Joel Rosario gave to Big Invasion. He said he went for a gap that was not there, almost put the horse on the floor and managed to get the best horse in the race beaten.

Fair enough – it did look like a poor ride. But would he have been just as scathing if Moore, Dettori or Buick produced a similarly poor ride? Somehow I don’t think he would.

It looked like a classic case of a pundit feeling free to say what he wanted because he knows he will never encounter the jockey and trainer.

    100% CAS.

They get ever-so-brave when it’s someone who will never potentially damage their career by refusing to speak to them ever again.

I’m not sure which is more pathetic, tbh – the sycophancy towards local trainers and jockeys or gratuitously stocking the the boot in on those overseas.

Anyway, welcome aboard the Tapit Trice bus – come on, the Bluegrass winner!

Just for fun I’ve put a few pieces of silver on Two Phil’s who being a course winner last time out might have an edge on the others. I doubt it but 16/1 was fair at the time, but it’s that minus the 20p rule 4.

The race that intrigued me the most was the Grade 1 Bourbon stakes on the turf. I’m a bit late to mentioning ‘Up To The Mark’ as he was 11/2 last night, a price I thought was really tidy value and now he’s around 3/1.
He steps up to 9 furlongs now after a running on 3rd in the Maker’s Mark mile stakes where multiple grade 1 winner for Charlie Appleby ‘Modern Games’ was 2nd, both finishing 3 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Also, good luck to Cody’s Wish tonight, truly the reason for the most outstanding racing moment of the year 2022 when victorious at the Breeders Cup.
    Peace.

Jockeys got giddy again like last year

I’d have given you 1000/1 on those front runners after half a mile once they mentioned the 45 second split time

A potentially-controversial result as Mage was runner up to Forte in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream last time out and Forte was only taken out of the race on race day.

Two Phil’s was up with that pace, he has to be marked up significantly for his efforts. Winner was previously runner up to pre race favourite ‘Forte’ who was controversially ruled out by the vets earlier on today. Connections of that horse will be even more irked by that.

Oh snap Ian. Yea, we might be hearing much more about Forte’s ‘condition’ to race in the coming days.

Looks like Forte’s connections were robbed.

Not sure if the third placed horse was given too much to do or just could not live with the early pace. One for the Belmont perhaps?

The coverage on SSR was rubbish. It was much better last year when it was on RTV and it took NBC’s programme.
