Master Of Hounds seemed to run OK. Fifth I think.
May 7, 2011 at 22:56 #354376What kind of a ride was that from Leparoux?
Gave Dialed In way too much to do.
What could he do off those fractions? I think the opening 1/2 mile was 46.x the year Giacomo won. Today was 48.3! They crawled.
I know this is a hold up performer and a certain amount of luck is required in such a large field, but he held a lovely perch in stall seven, was still last turning into the strech and subsequently forced widest of all.
The jockey should have been aware of the pace and made the necessary tactical adjustments. To be fair, he didn’t appear to make up any ground on the eventual winner, but should have finished closer than he did.
Nice effort from Master Of Hounds in fifth. Stayed on really well at the finish and I’m sure Aidan will have one eye on the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

He probably couldn’t see the field for the nine (yes really) pairs of goggles he had on.
Reminded me of a certain ride on a certain wonderhorse last year.
May 7, 2011 at 23:23 #354383To be fair, Dialed in is not on the same page as the great mare…and neither was the ride. Mike Smith was about a foot from greatness.

Dammit, anthony, did you have to remind me of that race! I’ve gone through many months of treatment since that fateful day to help wash it from my memory.

She should have retired unbeaten!!!! Must kill Mike Smith…Must kill Mike Smith…
How manyy pairs of bloody goggles?! He should have allowed Dialed In to borrow a pair – that poor thing had more dirt kicked in his face than…a person who regularly has a lot of dirt kick in their face.

Even Borel came wide on the final bend. Really not sure what was going on. We all knew before that it was a bad Derby and unfortunately the pace just made it even worse. We better hope Mo, Toby’s Corner and the 2 Baffert colts (their names escape me) make it back soon, because otherwise the Classic could be truly dreadful. The 1st 2 in last year’s race were retired afterwards.
Nehro had pretty much a dream run so wouldn’t have thought he’d be the one to take out of the race. Is there a horse to take out of the race? I’d actually say it’s Master of Hounds, if he stays out there. Possibly the Preakness would suit better with a smaller field and less kickback, not to mention probably a faster pace and with some dirt experience under his belt. If Aidan campaigns and trains him correctly, he could be onto a winner.
There’s absolutely no dirt pedigree at all in Frankel so I wouldn’t be worried about him. I dare say he’d blow up at the Breeders’ Cup with the procedure, fanfare and hullabullo that goes on there. Can’t see Cecil sending him. Would So You Think go or would he go down under for the Cup? Unfortunately can’t find anything about Tights, no idea if there’s any dirt in there.
Await The Dawn’s pedigree reeks of dirt, although I worry that they don’t really seem to rate him too highly. Going to the Hardwicke next by all accounts.

. That’s why he was such an overlay. AK is the type that improves with age and distance, and he’s causing plenty of excitement stateside. Much more than Super Saver, anyway. The final time wasn’t bad at all, and AK closed the final 1/4 in 24 flat. His running style suits Pimlico, and nobody else can pass him in the Belmont.May 8, 2011 at 20:40 #354478What was that horse which was absolutley eating up the ground at the finish. I mean he was sprinting. Was it the Master of the Hounds? Whoever he was I’d want to follow him.
Remember le Leroidesanimaux? I remember doubling up at the stable staff calling him, Leroy. But then I realised ‘le roi’ would have been the derivation of his name. But our English lingo sounds so banal compared to French, doesn’t it?

Mucho Macho Man plugged away for 3rd but the winner blew past him.
You’re probably talking about Master of Hounds. He was at the rear of the main group, and was caught flat-footed when they sprinted for home. He closed off pretty well near the rail when he finally got going. I thought he’d be handier than that and the pace didn’t suit, he might have threatened otherwise. But it has to be said that the winner did him for a turn of foot, and Master of Hounds wasn’t gaining ground on Animal Kingdom.
But a promising run. Dialed In was the only other horse who made significant ground.
May 8, 2011 at 21:47 #354506May 8, 2011 at 21:51 #354508Just saw a quick look at Master of Hounds and that was a very good performance. They should stable him with Pletcher and keep him in America for the Dirt Races.
The rider Gomez? was it was very impressed with him

Thanks for the happy photo. I am happy too – see my post on this thread on page 3 – but I think my effort in getting 33/1 about Animal Kingdom was more luck than judgement, while the efforts of the trainer and jockey of Animal Kingdom were all about skill.
What I wanted to ask you was: are American racegoers angry, happy or indifferent about Bobby Alborado being jocked-off Animal Kingdom the day before the Derby, so that John Velazquez could take the ride after his original mount (Uncle Mo) was withdrawn?
I heard that Alborado was slightly injured earlier in the week, but was well enough on the big day to ride at the meeting. Does throwing a jockey off a Derby ride just before the race register at all with American racegoers?

Albarado could not ride on Thursday and Friday. The draw was on Wednesday, the same day he was injured. Graham Motion was essentially without a reliable ride until Uncle Mo scratched. So Motion had a choice: does he go with the jockey who may or may not be 100% on Saturday, or does he go with the jockey who by a stroke of luck is off the favorite?

Thanks for that, Presto. MOTH was late on the scene, but personally I can’t imagine even the winner shifted faster at the finish.
Anyway, I haven’t given up on Dialed In, yet, hoping for a stronger pace.
