I found the link above on Pletchers site giving workouts which include one by Uncle Mo over 1/2 mile in 0.49 2/5. I haven’t a clue whether this is a good sign or not, some of the horses beat it well (R Heat Lightning for instance) whilst others 2 secs slower.
Can any US racing experts enlighten me, as if he is not working well I need to press the lay buttong on Bfair pdq!
It all depends on what Pletcher is trying to do with him. Two weeks from the Wood Memorial, he’s likely just using this as a maintenance work. He doesn’t want to waste a horse’s energy in the morning. His next work (probably his last before the Wood) may be a tightener under 48. But horses rarely show their true form in workouts. I wouldn’t put too much stock in them.
April 1, 2011 at 10:10 #348241Thanks Miss Woodford. I will hang fire then. My plan all along has been to trade out after the Wood Memorial, presuming he wins easily and becomes, as Pletcher has predicted, the shortest priced KD fav since Easy Goer (4/5).
Do you think he is likely to face stiff opposition in the Wood at this stage?

Short answer: No
Long answer: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ … e-together
His only real competition would be Jaycito, who is more likely to run in the Santa Anita Derby. The others are locals who have been running in preps at Aqueduct over the winter. Typically Aqueduct inner dirt track horses falter once the meet moves to the outer track.Mo is already getting the Zenyatta treatment. Expect him to be 1/5 on the tote board. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ … n-wood-day

Tremendous performance to make up the lost ground, though the fractions didn’t seem too hard and the final time was almost 3 secs slower than Quality Road in the same race 2 years ago and 4 secs outside the record for the race.
Uncle Mo has actually been shortened frationally on Betfair tonight so roll on next Saturday!!!

The track was scraped down for Quality Road’s run, it was even more of a superhighway than usual. Some people partially blame it for QR’s soundness issues that popped up soon after.
April 4, 2011 at 18:19 #348643How about Dialed In, then, folks? He was surely (I hope) worth an each-way bet, before they bet on him just now, after his win yesterday.
Don’t they thnk he’s "a bit special", as well? His trainer hadn’t been a bit perturbed by his previous defeat, explaining the reasons for it, at least in his opinion.
I just spotted your post, Bosranic, after posting. After seeing the Holy Bull race, he really does seem like a freak, as Bill Mott apparently commented.
Whether he wins of not, I’m very grateful to the journalists of the Sporting Lfe and Racing Post for giving us advance notice of very promising-looking ante-post bets, such as Dialed In – and there have been plenty of others.
Imagine if Dialed In hadn’t taken the scenic route, and had got a more or less clear passage!
April 10, 2011 at 06:03 #349572Been forveer since I pooped over here but thought I would drop in and say hello and see if anyone was following the Kentucky Derby trail happenings over here? It looks as if the scenario has changed after wwatching Uncle Mo in the Wood Memorial. He didnt’ look too happy or MOtivated in the stretch. Of course I have long advocated and cheered for one of his opponents so while I LIKE Uncle Mo I will try to beat him in the Derby with an outsider horse named Mucho Macho Man. While MANY horses are falling off the Kentucky Derby trail due to injury or lack of graded earnings/wins, or are regressing at this stage, it seems Mucho Macho Man (who is a June foal) seems to be getting stronger in his workouts. I don’t know why but I ADORE Him! Well that and his trainer, a woman named Kathy Ritvo had open heart surgery and a heart transplant last year. He was foaled in a field on the farm and they thought he was dead at first because he wasn’t moving and just when they were getting ready to moved a dead foal out, he moved, then stood up and has been strong and happy ever since! LOL! Gotta love those feel good types of Cinderella stories. It is my hope that what seemed to be a strong group of contenders earlier on, is now turning into a weaker crop of horses, and Mucho Macho Man will be ready to tackle them all on Derby day! JUST LOVE HIM!!
Hope everyone is doing well here….and looking forward to our annual Breeder’s Cup preparations and plans for anyone planning on making the journey to Churchill Downs in November 2011!
I’ll try to pop in more and as always you are all more than welcome to visit my forum across the pond (similar to this) and chat it up about any Kentucky Derby horses anyone may be interested in.

April 27, 2011 at 03:37 #352340I do want to thank the folks here at TRF for the opportunity
to visit and discuss the 137th Kentucky Derby… cheers & good luck!http://www.network54.com/Forum/366748/thread/1303687163/last-1303785155/Derby+musings
April 27, 2011 at 19:06 #352421Badactor, you’re always welcome over here, sir.
Still have your Mine That Bid photo as one of my screensavers. Thanks for the musings too. If they are yours (it’s not clear), the fact that Archarcharch isn’t trained by one of the "Big Eight" should be considered a strength as far as I’m concerned. I’m definitely interested – as I am in the much more interestingly named Mucho Macho Man, (welcome back, Afleet!), an animal with similarly low profile connections.
Can’t be doing with pesky monopoly trainers – long live the Underdog.
April 28, 2011 at 01:51 #352476Good to pop over across the pond once in awhile…love hearing the take over here on the US horses as much as I love getting the spin on all the EUro horses, one thing that is sdly missing at my forum (wish I had more discussions about that as we have a few who REALLY follow European pedigress and there are a few Euro horses we really like alot yet don’t have enough people "in the know" to talk with).
SO THRILLING you like Mucho Macho Man! MY FAVE! I think with the torrential rain they have been having in Kentucky, and his LONG stamina building works (he seems to like an off track too), coupled with several recent defections, he is looking stronger and stronger to me all the time. Still can’t quite figure out how much speed we’ll have in the race to set up for the deep closers but MMM’s style is a stalker and I think if he gets a good trip he’ll be one to watch out for, for certain! Not only that, his woman trainer had a heart transplant a couple years ago and has a small stable and seems VERY hands on with him. And not only that he is residing in Zenyatta’s former stall and if just a smidgeon of her champion and racing ways touch his feet he is sure to run like the ind! I SURE HOPE SO! So many people have changed their mind in recent weeks with the defections and injuries or illnesses or poor finishers in preps but I have been devoted to him since very early on…can’t jump off the bandwagon now!
Any insider info as to whether Master of Hounds will ake the trip? Read some reports that he might stay home and run in the Guineas and would LOVE to know if he is coming for sure. If he does NOT come for the Derby that will open a spot for another lesser know horses (true underdog) named Anthony’s Cross who I have also liked all year and I LOVE his trainer, Eoin Harty )traner of Dubai World Cup winner, Well Armed).
GREAT ATO SEE YOU AGAIN!
April 28, 2011 at 02:28 #352483Good Luck Afleet…
What can I do? I love him too!

http://www.tlorehorses.com/trainers/ple … ge=brisnetMay 5, 2011 at 02:22 #353835I know next to nothing about US racing, but it seems based on various tweets and looking through the runners that this is a bad year. Archarcharch looked interesting but he’s got Stall 1 – bye bye. Uncle Mo, Nehro and Watch Me Go drawn in the car park. Surely they’ve got almost no chance.
Dialed In drawn in 8, very nice. In amongst a lot of outsiders. Mucho Macho Man, Shackleford and Midnight Interlude all next to each other in 13, 14 and 15. Midnight Interlude did his best to throw the SA Derby away last time. Don’t see why he shouldn’t get the trip. Has an uncomplicated style of running too.
Lots to be concerned about with Dialed In’s style of running. Willo reckons he’s a bit of a plodder and Belmont beckons.
Anybody got any thoughts?
May 5, 2011 at 03:39 #353838I look for the horse who seems like he really wants more distance. In this case that would be the hard-closing Dynaformer colt Brilliant Speed. Dynaformers are so versatile I don’t think he’ll have any trouble on dirt. The 2 post is his biggest obstacle.
May 5, 2011 at 11:21 #353875In a year when there a many question marks about all the runners I hope a quirky runner gets the prize. Animal Kingdom has ability and has progressed quietly towards this. He has a not-so-good post position, has never run on dirt, and has a generally low-key trainer who is in terrific form. He will get the trip, can run through horses to win and has put up some fast training times on the Churchill track. He will do for me, especially at the price, 33/1 the last time I looked.
