They have just laid 844 tonnes of new updated polytrack material onto Kempton AW course and the clerk of the course gave the official going today as Standard to Slow.
I just completed my speed figures for Kempton and I assessed the going to be -0.08s/f slow which makes the going today to be only Standard and not as advertised Standard to Slow.
So with all this new material, it did not slow the horses down today.
AW going allowance table:
Fast +0.50s/f
Stand/Fast +0.18s/f to +0.40s/f
Standard -0.15s/f to +0.15s/f
Stand/Slow -0.48s/f to -0.18s/f
Slow -0.70s/f to -0.50s/fToday’s speed figures:
02:30 Attraction Ticket 66
03:00 Venetian View 53
03:30 Junket 71
04:00 Haafaguinea 53
04:30 Kinglami 65
05:00 Fleur De La Vie 62
05:30 Oblitereight 80August 6, 2012 at 17:57 #409098The jockeys apparently were describing it as very deep and very slow. Obviously they were wrong about the slow part but is Kempton now the new Southwell?

I always start out by assessing the going at 0.00s/f per furlong as it gives a clear indication on what the going is.
Todays speed figures at 0.00s/f and 9-0:
02:30 Attraction Ticket
59
03:00 Venetian View
47
03:30 Junket
64
04:00 Haafaguinea
46
04:30 Kinglami
58
05:00 Fleur De La Vie
56
05:30 Oblitereight
74
These figures are not on the slow side.
It will be interesting to see what Dave Edwards gives as the going allowance
August 6, 2012 at 18:24 #409102I have it 0.24s/f slow.
August 6, 2012 at 19:21 #409106Mine was slow 54………….I can convert that to s/f and it comes to slow 0.375 s/f
So mine is a bit slower than you guys………..
August 6, 2012 at 19:57 #409109Great vote of confidence from some of the jockeys, in this snippet of news:
The newly improved track was used for the first time in nearly a month today, but some riders weren’t pleased. Richard Hughes called it "deep and desperate" and Adam Kirby said: "It is riding deep and is very hard work."
Could be some funny results until the horses and riders get used to it.
August 6, 2012 at 23:11 #409117It’s a bit like a Garry Richardson sports interview, where he keeps suggesting to the interviewees what to answer until they give in and comply.
Same track, same race, different question:
GR to jockey.
Track looked to be running fine today after some first class maintenance, eh?
Yes Garry it is running super. My fellow just bounced along.GR to jockey
Track looked desperate today after all that maintenance, eh?
Yes Garry it was real hard work and my fellow was near exhausted at the line.GR to jockey.
How much faster /slower than standard was track running today?
Standard what Garry? Don’t follow you.August 7, 2012 at 07:35 #409130Tuffers , probably correct for a while …as when Kempton opened the new poly track it was exactly the same , then it settled down
expect strange results for a couple of months , then all will be well for the 0/60 winter programme …. one must not interfere with the bookies fodder …….IMO

August 7, 2012 at 10:14 #409149@Ricky Lake No it is not the same surface, try knowing a little about what you are talking about before referring to it as bookie fodder.
Its a higher percentage of wax, hence the bouncing.
August 8, 2012 at 06:41 #409204They have just raced for the second day on the new surface at Kempton, on the first day I said that the surface was not riding
standard to slow
but was
-0.08s/f
which made the going
standard
, Dave Edwards said the going was
-0.16s/f
.
AW going allowance table:
Fast +0.50s/f
Stand/Fast +0.18s/f to +0.40s/f
Standard -0.15s/f to +0.15s/f
Stand/Slow -0.48s/f to -0.18s/f
Slow -0.70s/f to -0.50s/fYesterday the racing surface got quicker and I made the going to be
0.00s/f
per furlong, all this rubbish spoken from the experts, about the going being
deep and slow
, can finally be put to bed.
Yesterday’s speed figures:
05:55 Scottish Lake
64
06:25 Sedgwick
64
06:55 Emerald Invader
70
07:25 Filfil
63
07:55 Awesome Pearl
60
08:25 Saloomy
71
08:55 Auntie Mabel

Both Hannon runners were withdrawn last night, presumably on Hughes’s advice.
Hughes tweeted that the surface will settle down in a couple of months time but in the meantime is better suited to Southwell types.

Hannon has also withdrawn tonight’s intended runner
August 8, 2012 at 16:48 #409261Can Cormack arrange a interview with the clerk of the course @ kempton I wonder?
August 8, 2012 at 17:17 #409266Who could possibly expect the newly-laid surface to behave in the same manner as the old?
If I were an AW punter I wouldn’t moan about the surface’s changed character but relish the opportunity to try and use it to my advantage. Horses that have shown a liking for a Slow surface or those who normally turn out at fluffy Southwell, for example
A fleeting edge exists there somewhere while the track beds in, I’m sure
Naturally, the more disgruntled guff heard from jockeys and trainers the sharper the edge will be for the astute punter wise enough to wear ear plugs
August 9, 2012 at 06:24 #409296Day three of racing on the new polytrack surface at Kempton and what do I find, the polytrack is speeding up every time they race on it.
I concluded yesterday, that the track was riding
+0.10s/f
per furlong, making it
Standard
going.
AW going allowance table:
Fast +0.50s/f
Stand/Fast +0.18s/f to +0.40s/f
Standard -0.15s/f to +0.15s/f
Stand/Slow -0.48s/f to -0.18s/f
Slow -0.70s/f to -0.50s/fDavid Yates on Racing UK yesterday made a couple of comments, the races look like they are being run in slow motion, another so called expert putting the punters away.
Yesterday’s speed figures:
06:00 Kuda Huraa
64
06:30 Gallipot
86
07:00 Pompeia
47
07:30 Masarah
47
08:00 Magma
64
08:30 Henry Clay
58
09:00 Saharia
72

August 9, 2012 at 08:38 #409305Yes, I had it speeding up day by day as well
Over the 3 days I had it as slow 54, slow 37, slow 25
I think they were watering to tamp down the sand………..
August 9, 2012 at 09:14 #409308Yes, I had it speeding up day by day as well
Over the 3 days I had it as slow 54, slow 37, slow 25
I think they were watering to tamp down the sand………..My top rated horse yesterday was
Gallipot 86
and when I was entering the rating into my RP account, I noticed that "Top Speed" Dave Edwards has Gallipot at
86
, so his going allowance must be in the same ball park as mine.
On Tuesday I had the going at
0.00s/f standard
and Dave Edwards had it at
-0.06s/f standard
, which is nowhere near
standard to slow
, but as the racing pundits kept on saying the going was slow, they must be right and I must be wrong
