Not a hope of Ed getting within 8l of either of these two. and I expect KS to be a good 5l ahead of Denman.
February 10, 2008 at 17:50 #141977I think Kauto Star will win as well but in my opinion Exotic Dancer will be fighting it out with Denman for second spot. I think ED is overpriced compared to Denman.

Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer have met five times and KS has defeated him on all five occasions. I would only discard their Old Roan form – both running over an inadequate trip on their seasonal debuts.
This presents four pieces of form to ponder. It’s quite interesting to read that KS has beaten ED a mammoth total of 20L going right handed (the ’06, ’07 King George) , but a mere 3L going the other way (’07 Gold Cup, ’07 Betfair).
Exotic Dancer is a Cheltenham specialist. He’s won four of his eight starts at the course and been placed there on three other occasions. He only has, on average, 1 1/2 L to make up on KS going left-handed – any horse that gets within that distance of him in the Gold Cup will finish runner-up. Simple.
If he goes to The Festival without a prep run it wouldn’t bother me – if it was to be his seasonal debut it would, but a break of a little over 10 weeks is nothing to worry about.
Denman has eaten his rivals for breakfast so far – in Kauto Star, he will have bitten off more than he can chew.
February 10, 2008 at 18:21 #141987On form, ED has every right to be within a few pounds of both of these fine horses. He just seems to lack the superstar sparkle that they have, hence his inability to just get his head in front of KS. I think he is also the one most likely to better himself in a briskly-run Gold Cup. I don’t necessarily think he’ll win, but if I can get 12/1 on the day I know where the value will be.

Very true. I love everything about Denman – his size, power and style of running. If Kauto Star doesn’t do the business, I hope this horse does.
However, Exotic Dancer is a HUGE price. I’ve got O’Neill’s star in an EW double with Katchit for The Festival. Two horses I just can’t see finishing outside the first three in their respective races (and they’re still available at double figures).
February 10, 2008 at 18:53 #141997Kicking King wouldn’t be out of it either if back to his best (big ‘if’ admittedly)
February 10, 2008 at 19:14 #142008LOOK OUT THE CHAMP IS HERE
KAUTO BUMAYE!!!!!, KAUTO BUMAYE!!!!!, KAUTO BUMAYE!!!!!, KAUTO BUMAYE!!!!!, KAUTO BUMAYE!!!!!
For you uneducated gits BUMAYE!!!!! mean kill him.
Of course that is not a serious statement but guys there is no Arkle v Mill House here.
What we have is Denman V Exotic dancer……….who wil finish seceond to Kauto Star?
PS Cormack works for the BHA and he started all this hype
February 10, 2008 at 19:20 #142010I don’t think a five-length victory over Take The Stand quite equates to anything Kauto Star and Denman have achieved, Corm, and I’d be surprised if Kicking King still had enough about him to trouble Exotic Dancer for third.
February 10, 2008 at 19:24 #142013How i see it ending up is Kauto will beat Exotic Dancer with Knowhere staying on and just beating Denman for 3rd

Seems fine now.Given his connection with the PN stable, it’s to be hoped that Alex Ferguson hasn’t been gifted a share in either of the ‘big 2’.
Can just imagine him throwing toys out of the pram on being told about the stud fees!Eh Stud Fees
Poor attempt at a joke, I know, requiring the reader to posess some level of intelligence and irony. At least your reply didn’t have all those tiresome Cheltenham A/P losers attached to it, though!
February 10, 2008 at 19:54 #142023Kauto is the king at the moment and Denman is progressing rapidly through the ranks in the same way that Exotic Dancer did last season.
Race will probably have Neptune Collonges making the running probably with Liam Heard on board as he deserves the ride on him and the main 3 all stalking in behind, I think Kauto will win but it will be tough and he cannot afford any mistakes.
Personally i may not have a bet on this race as it looks like a race to savour and aslong as all the runners come back safe and sound lets have a Gold Cup which will rival and even maybe surpass the Desert Orchid/Yahoo battle which always brings a lump to the throat.
February 10, 2008 at 20:03 #142026Really split camps on here! I’m really not sure which horse is better Denman or Kauto Star – and I think Nicholls and co must be absolutely delighted they’ve kept the horses apart – I wonder if you gave him a £10 note and told him to back one of his which he’d go for.
Am i the only one who thinks Kicking King has a squeak if its back on top form? (Cormy’s a shrewdy and he seems to think its got a sniff )

Assuming the perceived main protagonists turn up on the day, it will be a race to savour, which doesn’t preclude the idea of betting on the outcome.
The battle you refer to doesn’t quite match up, considering that Yahoo was just a handicapper who happened to have conditions to suit on the day. That said, replays of the race continue to bring bile to my throat, having backed Yahoo at 25/1.
February 10, 2008 at 20:10 #142028It has got to be Kauto Star for me. I’m confident on the day he’ll be too classy for his rivals.
Denman has proven himself to be a monster in his own right. He’s a big powerful horse who jumps well and stays all day. Unfortunately for him (like ED) he has come at the time of Kauto Star. I also feel Denman is too one paced to trouble Kauto Star.
There is no real secret as to how the GC race will be run. Everyone knows ST on Denman will set a frantic pace either from the start or 5/6 out from home. He will run most of his rivals ragged but I just can’t see him taking Kauto off his feet. Kauto is simply too good
Exotic Dancer will be in the mix up at the finish and is an excellent ew bet in my eyes. Would love to see Kicking King run a big race too.

February 10, 2008 at 20:16 #1420291st Kauto Star
2nd Kicking King (6L)
3rd Denman (2L)
4th Exotic dancer (nk)I think Denman will lead them to the 2nd last but then have set the race up for teh ‘speed’ horses, then stay on again to grab 3rd.
February 10, 2008 at 20:22 #142031most are assuming a 2 horse race but i still think ED could be there abouts and it would be great to see all 3 jump the last together and fight it out up the hill
February 10, 2008 at 20:33 #142034"……….replays of the race continue to bring bile to my throat………"
Much too much information, scally!
