You want a perennially slow starting miler as a short priced fav for a 6f group 1
Not seeing it
July 5, 2022 at 00:45 #1605299That would be the only concern, FF. Maljoom is already better than any of these, unlike many is still improving fast and has more speed too.
On form the horses you like so much aren’t that far in front of the rest in those two races.
Only 2 1/4 lengths between the first 8 home in the Jubilee.
Only 2 1/4 between the first 4 in the Commonwealth Cup.
ie Perfect Power, Naval Crown and Creative Force may be currently the best European sprinters around, but they are the best of a (comparitively) bad bunch.Value Is EverythingJuly 5, 2022 at 01:12 #1605301Actually he’s not better than them all
At 115 he is rated lower than perfect power, creative force and naval crown
So he’d need to improve for his rather bizarre drop to 6f after running home strongly over a mile 3 times
He’d very likely find himself last after 50 yards and IF he could keep up maybe he’d run on into a place
Being the best of a bad bunch is still being the best, we don’t get paid less by the bookies on a bet because there’s some sprinter in a barn on the other side of the world that might be quicker
homeless affairs and artorius did fail to beat them though I wouldn’t claim to know the aussie 6f sprinting rankings other than nature strip (whose performance in the King stand has been vastly overrated given the second is rated 110 the third 110 and 4th 112. So he’s basically bolted up in a listed/group 3 race)
At least our 6f horses are verging on 120
They aren’t top draw but they aren’t useless
The 5f sprinters are just plain useless and bar battaash and blue point have been for years and even then glass slippers managed to win at the breeders cup
I may have gone slightly off track there lol

“At 115 he is rated lower than perfect power, creative force and naval crown”.

On Timeform ratings he is, FF.
From the Timeform Update:
Maljoom 124p, Naval Crown 122, Creative Force 121, Perfect Power 119.Official ratings never allow enough for disadvantages in running / sectionals.
I don’t think Nature Strip (OR 124) is over-rated at 14 lbs better than Kings Stand second Twighlight Calls 110. Timeform have him at 133, that’s 15 lbs higher than Twighlight Calls 118. 133 compares to Baaeed 134 or our top sprinters of recent years Battaash 136 and Muhaarar 134. Shows how gppd (bad) our “top sprinters” are this year.
Anyway, the point I was making is when it’s not a particularly good year for sprinters a top class miler can often come down in trip and beat them.
Sussex and Coronation winner Alcohol Free is entered at the moment, don’t know whether she’ll go here or Falmouth though. Now rated with an Official Rating of 112, once rated 119 (122 with mares allowance). imo Hasn’t had her ground yet this season, but unlikely to get it here either.

Twilight Calls looks alright. 4 and a half lengths behind a 124 horse last time. An argument can be made that he is better than 110. A Nunthorpe win will probably confirm that.
July 5, 2022 at 10:14 #1605323I saw Chief Singer drop to 6f and win the July Cup on my first visit to the July Course in 1984.
Alcohol Free – same colours – has been a disappointment so far this season, but her Lockinge fourth wasn’t too bad and if the track is watered as much as it was at the last meeting, she will benefit.
She had the speed to win a Cheveley Park and she might be interesting at a price if bypassing the Falmouth for this.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 5, 2022 at 10:52 #1605325She definitely needs soft ground
Or she’s not trained on as she was a very good filly at 3
Always looked a sprinter stretching out to a mile to me
Her 9th in the platinum jubilee was Respectable

I agree.

Value Is EverythingJuly 5, 2022 at 16:43 #1605380Perfect Power may win again and if he drifts a bit nearer the time i may have a look. But as we know sprinters can sometimes beat each other during the season. With this mind i’ve thrown a dart at Twilight Jet 33-1 ew. Dirty scope at Ascot so an excuse there and has 1 and a half lengths to make up on Perfect Power on their 2 year old Newmarket group 1 run. That might be good enough for a 2nd or 3rd, and who knows what might happen if Perfect Power misfires. Away from Perfect Power nothing floats my boat at/near the top of the market.
July 7, 2022 at 10:52 #1605730All the principles entered
Now to see whether perfect power is pulled out or not
If he lines up il have a saver on him
But I doubt he will after what Fahey said, I do want him to as we will likely see another Soumillon masterclass
July 7, 2022 at 23:10 #1605862Was a bit surprised that Romantic Proposal was declared, but as she was my long term fancy, I had no option but to add her when she was declared. Looking forward to seeing her in a race like this.
I’ll definitely stick to win only though, with Cadamosto already bet. I’ll look to make it a free race for me, if I can lay off in running.
Cadamosto 50’s
Romantic Proposal 20’sJuly 8, 2022 at 00:37 #1605872Creative Force for me.
He was unlucky with the draw last time and will reverse with Naval Crown on Saturday and hopefully beat the rest of his rivals.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 8, 2022 at 08:02 #1605881I’m interested to see how Flotus gets on today at York, you’d really want to see her bolting up in a Group 3 limited to the girls given how she fared in the Commonwealth Cup against the boys. Although I felt Perfect Power was much the best in the Commonwealth Cup the form of the horses in behind is important to some extent given his price for this and we aren’t sure how good they are relative to their elders. I did think Flaming Rib took a big step forward from 2 to 3 and this track might suit more than Ascot for a front runner so he could close the gap on Perfect Power but his price doesn’t excite me that much at the moment and Cadamosto wasn’t that far behind them, that looked a big step forward from him as well. Romantic Proposal would be my preference of the older horses as she’s not as exposed at this level yet as some of the others.
July 8, 2022 at 10:57 #1605909Hala hala athmani also ran well in the commonwealth cup (only 2 lengths behind flotus on only her 3rd start and seasonal debut) and benefit also has close form ties with sense of duty and flotus
So any of those 3 winning boosts the 3yo sprint form
July 8, 2022 at 14:44 #1605961Added Perfect Power.
July 8, 2022 at 14:49 #1605966Perfect Power looks the one to beat (mr. obvious, flotus just propped the form up as well) but I’ll follow VTC and TTM albeit at a lower price of 12’s on Romantic Proposal.
A first group 1 for Chris Hayes on these shores is the story I’m going for. Also, If Perfect Power drifts to, let’s say, 7/2, then I’ll have a saver on him.
