A race I love to have an Antepost in, and also a race where never back the winner…..

Hardly surprising that the first three hone in The Jubilee have been slashed, and hard to argue with them.

My long term fancy fit this is Romantic Proposal, but she’s yet to travel over here, so hardly an Antepost proposition, for all that 20’s really appeal.

With The Wokingham approaching, the ever improving Blackrod appeals at 40’s, though having backed him today, there’s no point jinxing him beforehand. Even if he wins today, this would still be a big ask, and I reckon I’d still get a nice old price, so I can afford to wait.

The two who rally appeal at the prices both ran really well in The Commonwealth Cup yesterday, and both high on the shortlist. Should Blackrod fail today, I’ll probably have a wee early Antepost

    Early Shortlist
    Blackrod 40’s
    Cadomosto 50’s
    Flotus 66’s
    Romantic Proposal 20’s

Edit. Completely missed that 66’s Flotus, but took the 50’s Cadamosto

Perfect Power for me, but he’s only 5/1 and, unless Nature Strip is withdrawn, will he be appreciably shorter at the 48-hour stage?

    I can wait.

    Gone for a big price

    CADAMOSTO 50/1

Perfect power won Commenwealth cup but if watch again when Cadamosto made his challenge
Had momentum stopped for a brief moment. Think can get in top 3 with record AOB has with 3yo horses.

Certainly stepped on its previous form.

I rate it 113 on that.

Further improvement would put it right in the mix.

Perfect Power now 9/4 which seems extremely short

Hard to see him being smaller on the day, if it’s a good sized field I’d be surprised if 4.0 or higher isn’t available on the day

They’ve been taking turns winning these 6f group 1s the last few years

So they don’t set a standard that perfect power can’t beat

In fact I’d be a little dissapointed if he didn’t win another 2 group 1s this season

Looking through the 5 day entries I’m finding it hard to see one of perfect power, creative force or naval crown not winning

Artorius just strikes me as one of those horses that will always be running on into a place

Hard to get away from Perfect Power, who for me was much the best in the commonwealth cup having to come from stall 1, though I’m not sure there’s much juice in his price atm

I really like creative force but he seems to keep getting too far behind in the early stages. He did this in the July cup, Haydock sprint cup and in the platinum jubilee

The one time he managed to get a good sit he dotted up in the champion sprint

All I will say is watch the going stick readings and the times on the first two days.

There’s no rain forecast but the Clerk Of The Course put a LOT of water down for the last meeting.

Mind you, I said that about Andrew Cooper before the Eclipse meeting and to be fair to him he delivered perfect Good to Firm summer racing ground IMO.

    You never can tell!

“Watering (In Progress) A full irrigation cycle (10-12mm) was completed on Thursday/Friday and further irrigation of the home straight was undertaken on Saturday. The plan is to complete two full irrigation cycles on Monday and Wednesday prior to racing on Thursday.”

    That is what’s planned

So half an inch down on Monday and another on Wednesday

“We don’t know where he’s going and we’ll wait until the last minute,” he said on Monday. “We would prefer to go to Newmarket as the July Cup is a bit more prestigious, but there’s the alternative of the Prix Jean Prat on Sunday.

“He’s working tomorrow and we’re leaving it all to Richard as he gets it right. It depends on the rain and how much water they’re going to put on at Newmarket. He really wants easier ground, which he’ll probably get in Deauville.”

Sounds like a non runner to me given there is 0 rain forecast

So a bet now seems a good idea

    Creative Force 5/1
Saver on Naval crown at 6/1 :good:

Suppose there’s always a chance of being a non-runner but if they all take part…
tbh If coming up firm I’d be more concerned for Creative Force and Naval Crown than I would be with Perfect Power..

Yeah, but you don’t train him and, despite all the contrary evidence in the form book, he seems to think Perfect Power needs cut.

I’m with you on this, I think the colt likes it Good or a bit quicker and if he ran at Newmarket I’d be most worried about the Clerk overwatering.

But trainers and jockeys aren’t always the best judges of their own horses’ preferences and seldom ever admit they were wrong either.

Perfect Power has won four times on Goid to Firm, two of those in Group 1s.

His only win with cut was the Prix Morny and while that was a decent effort I wouldn’t say it was his career best.

Got to be said what a crap race this is.
Looks the worst field for some time.
    Our older horses are uninspiring.
Perfect Power might be a multiple Group 1 winner, but the form he’s actually shown in winning them is not that good. Bit surprised one of the top milers didn’t drop down and pick up an easy Group 1.
As it is the best three year old sprinter isn’t even in the race – Sense Of Duty.

Artorius probably isn’t in the top three Aussie sprinters, but on form will have a great chance here if getting the strongly run race he needs. That said, noticeable over the years the Aussies do much better at Ascot – when they’re not long off the plane – than they do Newmarket.

    What top milers?

Other than baaeed there aren’t any

If you think chindit or order of australia could drop back to 6f and win this easily then you need to check yourself in for a mental examination

I do agree that outside of perfect power and the platinum jubilee 1-2-3 the rest all look very very average though

The speed Majloom showed to come from last place in a very slowly run St James’s Palace to almost snatch the race, would be more than enough to see him start a shortish priced favourite here.
