What was her job anyway? Didn’t look that great when dealing with the requirements of the affordability checks and the promotion and introduction of Premier Racing was something I’d like to call a bit of a failure though it might be too early premature to judge her on that.
I can’t recall any positive changes she introduced or was responsible for and I doubt she felt comfortable in her job.
June 11, 2024 at 16:21 #1697605Is anyone going to notice when she leaves?
June 11, 2024 at 17:07 #1697606June 11, 2024 at 17:16 #1697608Anyone might think she has swallowed the management speak textbook:
“The sport has developed and implemented shared strategies for a sustainable future”.
“I am proud of the progress the industry has made over the past three years, especially in improving the governance structure”. (Thanks for that Julie – it was such a vital issue).
“The sport continues to foster the sense of unity and shared purpose”.
Nothing whatsoever about the serious issues facing the sport, some of which became worse during her tenure.
And then:
“My future plans are likely to include a move to a varied non-executive career”.
In other words, goodbye, now I am off to pick up easy money for doing nothing.
June 11, 2024 at 17:17 #1697609Would seem like both HMS BHA and HMS Jockey Club are sinking ships with the amount of personel abandoning them
June 11, 2024 at 20:18 #1697625Oh what a shame…..
She was pi55 poor when at British Cycling, and was equally inept at the BHA.
She’ll be getting another high profile job in British sport no doubt…..
June 11, 2024 at 22:46 #1697637‘Nothing whatsoever about the serious issues facing the sport, some of which became worse during her tenure.’
She should have read the management speak textbook more thoroughly, she could have told us all about the ‘headwinds’ the sport faces and waffled on about the ‘medium to long term going forward’.
June 12, 2024 at 03:34 #1697639Ah Richard, the news is out now, but they could have kept it in their back pocket and circled back later.
There’s enough bandwidth for the new bod to work with, but they’ve closed the loop on her tenure.
Perhaps there will now be a significant paradigm shift and the next one on stage will no doubt do a deep dive into all the issues and the future will look very positive.
Ping me if you have more news and we can touch base later.
Who thinks up all this ****!!!!
June 12, 2024 at 11:27 #1697655I wonder if Julie Harrington actually had any genuine interest in racing.
What’s Paula Vennells doing now? Expect an announcement from the BHA any day…
June 15, 2024 at 11:07 #1697931According to the Currant Bun:
“Matt Hancock is the surprise favourite to land a massive new job after 14 years as an MP in his Newmarket constituency.
The former Health Secretary during Covid is being tipped for the top gig at the British Horseracing Authority.”
June 15, 2024 at 15:42 #1698004Ah but…………
He does have both, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins on his CV, so that must count for something Cork…………….surely?
June 15, 2024 at 15:54 #1698007I wouldn’t put it past them to appoint disgraced former minister Hancock (to give him his correct title), assuming he isn’t in prison for PPE irregularities by then. As if having Harding as chief steward isn’t enough of a PR disaster. It’s as if they WANT to alienate the public.
June 15, 2024 at 16:52 #1698014The three issues that concern me the most nobody is going to do anything about.
They have pussy-footed around on the whip issue year after year. One tinker after another because they are frightened to upset the bubble. All that despite the fact that racing could exist without the need to hit a horse to try and make it run faster. They are happy to chop a bit off fences, but they are equally happy to see an animal being struck in the interests of sport. It makes no sense.
The second has also been there since the take off all weather racing. That has gone way beyond what it was meant to do – basically keeping the show on the road. Now it exists to give punters as many opportunities to boost bookmakers profits as possible. Of course it’s not just all weather, there’s too much rubbish day in day out.
In my fantasy land I would have no more than two meetings a day midweek, and a maximum of four at the weekend. Only to be increased on bank holidays. With one blank day a week. I believe in the idea the less you have the more you look forward to something. That’s how used to be.
The third would be to get Stewards to actually do their jobs properly. I am sure there was an idea that jocks were supposed to ride out for the best possible placing. Not sure that excluded the likes of Buick, Doyle and Moore. How often has this been enforced, every half-an-hour, or closer to a couple of times a year? Punters deserve better. It’s nowhere near good enough just to unearth the odd ever so obvious non-trier.
