A disgraceful decision by Priti Patel, who should be dismissed. She would be out of her depth in a puddle.

Why does this country so pathetically do America’s bidding all the time?

    The “Special Relationship”?

I don’t agree with it but shouldn’t deflect from fact he’s a vile human being

Those random leaks could easily have put someone’s life in danger and for what?

What was funny though was that for all his conspiracy theory crap the leaks produced virtually nothing and proved that governance and international relations are generally just mundane

He couldn’t even lay a hand on the Jews. Must have been gutted. ******

I do not especially like him either but as you say that is not important.

If an American journalist had published information the British government did not want everyone to see in print and it asked for him to be extradited, I believe the response from the White House would be two words – the second one being “off”. They will not even extradite that woman who almost certainly killed the young motorcyclist.

It is right to put “special relationship” in inverted commas. No one in American politics believes in it. American administrations are more than prepared to work against British interests when it suits them. Most Americans would have left us to our fate in the 1940s if Germany had not declared war on them.

Yet several British Prime Ministers have come to believe in it and convinced themselves we are best friends. At least Harold Wilson had the guts to stand up to America over Vietnam, in stark contrast to Poodle Blair on Iraq.

My father used to say to me that Wilson’s greatest achievement was something he DIDN’T do – involve British troops in Vietnam.

He was under relentless pressure Stateside to do so and the line wily old Harold spun them, apparently, was: “I would love to send troops in, I support you, but honestly, the left of my Party will literally kick me out if I do and then you’ll be dealing with some ‘Commie,’ not me.”

Not true cork. There was a strong isolationist minority mostly mid west and also Irish heritage but it wasn’t clear cut at all

Hitler also declared war after intervention I believe ?

The isolationist movement was very strong in America in the interwar years.

Hitler declared war on America after it had declared war on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbour. If he had not done so, it is by no means clear cut that America would have got involved in the European theatre.

It was strong but it wasn’t a majority. Also depended a lot on heritage. Mid west was heavily german

Very good book I read on this last year

Although that article is from the Grauniad, its author is the former chief political commentator at the Torygraph, so he’s no leftwing firebrand.

And he hits the nail squarely on the head.

Regardless of rights and wrongs, that s a bit rich coming from the ever sinister Oborne, another posh public schoolboy who fetishises fundamentalist Islam

It’s still not said enough that it’s almost comical that the simple Assange achieved precisely the opposite to what was hoped for with the leaks

Millions of pages and what was there ? All I recall was Saudi Arabia talks to Israel, which Everyone guessed anyway and that prince andrew was an arrogant prat. Some revelation that

There were no lizards controlling the world or bildenburg elite conspiracies and other such schoolboy crap

Other question is that if convicted. Will he fry ?

And seeing as he wants no privacy or secrets at all, will he be broadcast live in the chair?

    Good for ratings that one

    “who fetishises fundamentalist Islam“

You don’t half post some rubbish sometimes. Arguing against Islamophobia is not the same as what you have said.

Oborne resigned from the “Daily Telegraph” when he learned that articles were being spiked because donors to the paper did not like them. He went public about it as well.

No matter what anyone thinks about his politics, he is a principled man with real integrity.

Peter Hitchens, to whom similar comments apply, has also been vocal in his opposition to any extradition of Assange.

As Oborne says, it is shameful – particularly for the liberal parts of the press – that so little opposition has been expressed.

Really? Throwing out the tired old “Islam’s phobia”

Perhaps a look at his much ridiculed and frankly weird tweets regarding the taliban is in order?

The idiots predictions of their behaviour when taking over the Country were not just stupid but also stank of apologia

Can u imagine Boris in a similar position reg Vietnam …..they,d have to give the grave diggers overtime and an above inflation pay rise to keep up with the dead , Patel is the devil in disguise and while teetotal I’ll gladly toast her demise when she falls on her dagger , you,d question why Boris surrounds himself with such creatures ….it’s as if it covers up the odour of his own rotting corpse of a political career …..Wilson was far from the greatest PM but Jesus we need his type in charge just now …..Christ even sunny Callaghan would be a upgrade
