    Sacred 14’s (I’m on at 18’s)
Was never going to get the mile in the guineas last year
a strong pace here will suit. Usually finds one too good but worth a go at the price

Nathan, this is the Royal Ascot folder, so can we do things properly, please?

Kindly edit the thread title to add the suffix Stakes (with a capital S) and make sure you’re wearing a jacket and tie – at the very least! – when so doing.

    Thanks in advance.

Ian, I once wore a suit when I made the Champions League final on the pc game Championship Manager 2003/04. Played the theme tune aswell. My better half at the time gave me a few strange looks.
Can’t edit the thread title it won’t let me but if Admin can give me the heads up when doing so I’m happy to wear my birthday suit along with Top hat and dicky bow

    Campanelle.

Would be nice to see her win three consecutive Royal Ascots: as a 2-yo, a 3-yo, and now a 4-yo. Has any horse accomplished such a feat?…

I’m on creative force and minzaal

Really hopeful of a big run from both

Thought minzaal ran a very nice race at York

    Ward on campanelle

He rode Campanelle, she broke behind Kimari and he tracked her all the way over five furlongs.

“He eased out with a furlong to go and it almost looked like Kimari was going to keep rolling on and visually watching I was thinking ‘uh oh, maybe Campanelle doesn’t have it’.

“I was thinking ‘Oh well, Kimari is a very good horse who has finished second twice at Ascot and she’s a Group One winner’. All these thoughts were going through my mind.

“Then all of a sudden Julio moved his knuckles just a shade and within three strides Campanelle made up three lengths – she responded like a lion getting to an antelope.

“It was exactly what we wanted to see. The whole team had smiles on their faces after watching that, which was great to see.”

    27 runners in a group 1

Might need 10 places each way in this one

27 runners not great for each way purposes but at least a short priced favourite helps on that score.

You’d think with 27 runners and just three horses tipped so far, you’d think I’d be coming on here with something original.

I agree with – well – all of you.

    Backed:
    Sacred 10.5/1
    Creative Force 17/1
    Minzaal 18.5/1

    All each way

Sacred is still lightly raced so still has bags of scope for improvement. From the best trainer in the country. Goes well on a sound surface… And this being her reappearance is if anything a plus. Hasn’t run since the Hungerford but all three victories from 8 (including debut) have come after 100+ days absence. That said, has run well in defeat including 3/4 length second to Campanelle in Queen Mary here.

Both Minzaal and Creative Force’s very best so far have come with give but imo there is a good chance that’s a coincidence.

Minzaal was very impressive at Salisbury in a minor event on good-firm – a good enough performance that saw him start favourite and win the Gimcrack. Interesting that in his next three starts – Middle Park 3rd, Rous (Ascot) 2nd and British Champions Sprint (Ascot) 3rd – he did best of those held up. In this 27 runner race being held up may help. Possibly less suited by the sharp 6f of York (or change to more prominent tactics) on reappearance – 3 3/4 lengths third to Highway Princess. The 2 lengths third to Creative Force in the Champion Sprint (good-soft) obviously proves he likes this place… As it does Creative Force who also won the Jersey here on soft.

However, although Creative Force only managed 5th in the July Cup on good-firm he was only beaten a total of 2 lengths by winner Starman and just 3/4 off Oxted in 3rd… And has 3 earlier victories to his name on good-firm. Suspicion is he’s best at Ascot, hopefully whatever the going.

Home Affairs form figures over 6f
    38919

    His form figures over shorter
    2111

He did beat nature strip over 5f but nature strip badly missed the break and only got beat on the head Bob. Nature Strip is much the better of the two (though home affairs is younger and could be improving)

I also think the British horses at 6f are a good 4 or 5 lbs better than the 5f horses who are all group 3 and listed horses really

He may well win but I really don’t think he’s a 2/1 shot in this field

He only has 2lb on creative force and 3lb on a case of you on ratings

And there’s gonna be a big stiff finish at the end of his race today and the likes of creative force, sacred, a case of you and minzaal will be flying home

    Will he hold on? Maybe
Would I take the 2/1? Not a chance

Alcohol free dropped down in distance is my e.w play , she won the coronation last year and while she,s been disappointing this year Ascot seems to bring out the best in her , plus in my eyes she’s trained by one of the best trainers about

I’d just be worried with Alcohol Free that she’s not trained on from 3 to 4, you can easily excuse the Juddmonte performance so ignore that but she wasn’t great in the QEII and neither performance this season were great either. When she won the Sussex the WFA scale gives the 3yos 8lbs from their elders and that drops down to 3lbs by October for the QEII and nothing as they are 4 year olds. Lots said about training on from 2 to 3 but some don’t go on from 3 to 4 either. To me Mother Earth and Dragon Symbol look in the same bracket about not going on at 4 but it is early days so I could be wrong.

If I’m wrong about Dragon Symbol then I’m afraid the 6F sprinters are no better than the 5F ones as he was in the middle of all the form last year over both trips and he can’t win a Listed race this year. If he’s actually running to a similar level this year then this is wide open because in theory most of the rags are no worse than those who won the G1s.

It’s a Group 1, not a Handicap, but there’s not a lot between many of them and in the biggest field I can remember for a Group 1 in many years I think the draw may play a part.

Just three of the many things that mark Richard Hannon as a man in a zone of his own as a trainer are….

    – he built himself up from literally nothing, it’s not like he inherited his yard, or even his name, from his Dad

    – the sensitive, selective way he campaigns his horses as opposed to carpet bombing the fixture list with runners

    – his tremendous annual strike rate
