Good to hear from you Darren and Joliff. I’ll check out your thread Darren – always good to read your thoughts – you’re a great judge. Media Stream disappointing Joliff on a day when lots of other Frankel’s ran well. A small profit but lots of near misses until Bolshoi Ballet. I thought Mehnah was the filly to take from today. I’m sure she’ll be winning Group races and I wouldn’t be surprised if she turns out to be top class. She came from last to almost first after a terrible start and another stride she would have won it.

Yea he looks like one of Fabre’s lesser lights seemingly!

I too prefer the flat so tend to come out of hiding for the summer! I’m on JOA in the Guineas too but thought it was a bit of a flat performance today given her pedigree. The form already looks suspect with a rank outsider winning. Who knows if she’ll have another run.

Good quality racing midweek and it will be interesting who Ballydoyle will bring over. Van Gogh looks an improver in the Craven and Magellan franked the form last week. He would be my pick for that at this stage.

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Thanks Joliff – yes JOA ran ok and will be better over a mile but I doubt we saw the Guineas winner. As you say, some great racing this week and this is where it all really hots up isn’t it? As usual it seems that Balldoyle are holding back the big guns until May but will be interesting to see if anything can lay down a marker. Shale was mixing it with the best last year and she only managed 5th today so I wouldn’t necessarily be mad about last years top 2-year-old fillies.

Kicking myself that Sir Lamorak ran without me noticing today. I have him in my tracker but havent checked it for a few days and didn’t even bother looking at the handicaps. He won very easily and could be a nice Royal Ascot type.

One bet for tomorrow. William Haggas still has Alto Volante entered in the Derby. He is nowhere near that level but he ran in a decent race last time out and faces nothing of that calibre tomorrow. He is only running off 75 and is 8-1 so worth an e/w.

    £15ew Alto Volante – 8-1 – Windsor 4.10 lost

Another one for today, Chase The Dollar has been entered in the Dante and runs off a low mark for an in-form trainer.

    £40 win Chase The Dollar – 6-4 – Redcar 4.25 lost

Two disappointing runs today. Alto Volante was backed as if defeat was out of the question but he is clearly a bit of a dog – wouldn’t go in the stalls for ages and then was almost impossible to steer during the race. Chase The Dollar got tired but was beaten a long way out.

On to tomorrow when the action really starts. I have a couple of early ew bets. I’ve heard nice things about Caturra and I really like Mehmas as a sire. I think he may end up a lot shorter tomorrow…In the Fielden I’ve gone for two. Aiden has brought over Arturo Toscanini and gave him a positive review in his stable tour today. I was expecting him to be shorter than 13-2. Also I like Youth Spirit from Andrew Balding’s yard. He ran well in behind Battleground in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood last year and always looked like he’d benefit form going up in trip. The stable have started in pretty good form too. Finally I think this will be good year for Double Or Bubble who has been brought along slowly by her shrewd and underrated trainer. She is a full sister to Mix and Mingle who was a 110+ filly and Chris Wall has compared this filly to her believing her to be Group class. If he’s right then she should go close off 91 tomorrow.

    £15ew Caturra – 13-2 – 1.35 Newmarket lost
    £15ew Artuto Toscanini – 13-2 – 3.20 Newmarket lost
    £15ew Youth Spirit – 6-1 – 3.20 Newmarket lost
    £15ew Double Or Bubble – 5-1 – Newmarket 3.50 winner
    £2ew Trixie

Sir Lamorak boosted the form of Arturo Toscanini (an Italian Conductor FWIW!), albeit in a handicap…6/1 seems good value but sometimes you wonder why it’s not shorter given connections?

Noble Dynasty is probably a bet for me tomorrow against Duke of Mantua, half brother to Barney Roy so should be a decent type.

Don’t know what happened to AT today Joliff but he was beaten by half way. A taking win by Double Or Bubble and she looked group class to me. I hope so anyway.

Just the one bet tomorrow I think on what looks a tricky day. I really liked the way Mohaafeth finished off his race last time and I think he’ll be even better over this longer trip. His dam was very classy and this flashy chestnut is entered in the Dante and The Derby. He gets in here off 85 and has the benefit of a run. Lots in his favour and he’s a confident pick.

    £60 win Mohaafeth – 5-2 – Newmarket 4.45 winner

I’m hearing nice things about Ransom in the 6.15 at Kempton this evening. He’s only had one run in a poor maiden last year but he won it well despite being green and it’s interesting that he’s been kept in training. It doesn’t look the strongest of races and he has a decent 5lb claimer on board to offset the big weight. I think he’ll win this en route to better things.

    £60 win Ransom – 9-4 – Kempton 6.15 winner (5-2 BOG)

I’d like to know the stats but I feel like obrein does very badly away from the big festival and races when he sends horses over these days

They feel more like fact finding missions to see what the opposition is like more than anything else

Last one for now. All short priced today but they’re all getting backed. Naval Crown is rock solid and should be hard to beat with fitness guaranteed.

    £60 win Naval Crown – 15-8 – 2.25 Newmarket lost

    £10 win treble

Agree with FF re O’Brien. :good:

Well done with Double Or Bubble Joni a real eyecatcher of a performance really like her.

I was happy see Highland Avenue win so easily yesterday been following him from Day1 and you can see why. Bred in the purple and a stunning grey.

I think Sacred will take all the beating in the Nell Gwyn today and Cheveley Park could win the 1.15 with Canonized but it’s a real pinsticker of a race.

Best of luck today. Jac :bye:

Jac, I hope so with Sacred I adore her although I’m not convinced about the distance.
Hope she can prove me wrong…

Well done Jac! Really nice win by Scared that. It was interesting today to see three horses who had looked very promising in the middle of last season put subsequent disappointing runs behind them today. I backed Sacred and My Oberon a couple of times last year and they showed what they were made of today as did Tactical. Well done for keeping the faith Jac!

I was close to a treble with only Naval Crown letting me down but I was super impressed with Mohaafeth who looked a Group winner in waiting. He travels like a dream and has a bit of a kick as well. Not sure he’s quite up to winning a Derby but we could be seeing him at Royal Ascot. Ransom looked very nice as well.

Just the one for tomorrow so far. John Leeper ran a race full of promise over an inadequate 7f back end of last term. He’ll be a much better horse over this trip and I’m certain he’ll finish in the first 3 and could take a bit of beating. As we are doing rather well I’ve bumped the stakes back up..

    £25ew John Leeper – 6-1 – Newmarket 4.10 Non-runner

Thanks Joni and agree with all you say on Mohaafeth. :good:

Been churning through every race tomorrow for Nathan’s comp and knew you would be all over John Leeper Frankel/Snow Fairy what a combination.

I think Godolphin will win the Craven tomorrow but not with Master Of The Seas, that 2nd to Naval Crown in Meydan put me off but withLa Barrosa who won the Gp.3 Somerville Stakes last September.

Best of luck Joni :good: Jac
