Wasn’t sure if this should go in the Memorials section but I think it’s notable enough for a thread in the main forum. https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/hall-of-fame-trainer-jonathan-sheppard-dies/?
Sheppard was the greatest American (well, British-born, but spent most of his life here) steeplechase trainer of all time and also among the best flat trainers, there will truly never be another like him. Beyond the numbers, which are detailed in the TDN obituary, almost every trainer in American jumps racing today got their start working in Sheppard’s barn, along with flat trainer Graham Motion. He along with George Strawbridge and William Pape bred many exceptional racehorses as well. A real giant of the sport whose legacy lives on.August 29, 2023 at 19:33 #1661497Thank you, Miss Woodford. I had the pleasure of working for him. He was an extremely nice man.

Value Is EverythingAugust 30, 2023 at 03:45 #1661523Flatterer is the fuzzy face in my avatar. Flatterer lived out his retired years at William Pape’s farm (and Flatterer had quite a few retired years, living to the age of 35!) and Sheppard would visit him regularly.
August 30, 2023 at 14:31 #166155035 is ancient.
