John Dunlop’s announced his retirement at the end of the season. Great trainer and true gentleman of the sport. May he have a long and happy retirement.

A grand trainer, hopefully Spanish Duke will give him a winner although the ground may just have gone against him.

I knew this decision for around 18 months now so it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Great trainer all the best John.

I loved walking around the yard on the bienniel open days. Unusually these days allowing people to walk in to boxes and get close to the horses. Always had time to talk. Excellent record with both colts and fillies. John is a real gentleman.

    Mr Hugh,
I’ve heard Arundel is no longer going to be a racing stables. Is that true?

I hope he has a long and happy retirement.

Of the horses he trained I’d say Salsabil was my favourite. She was a superb filly. Here’s a couple of video’s of her in action.

Fine trainer and a true gentleman. I wish him a very happy retirement.

I have backed quite a few John Dunlop trained horses over the years – especially the ones ridden by Pat Eddery and Willie Carson.

Scottish Rifle, Shirley Heights and Posse, I remember fondly.

However, Salsabil apart, he trained another exceptional filly in Habibti – a sprinter I followed religiously.

An absolute gent , and a real loss to the sport.
    Happy retirement.
I’m getting old and melancholy now.
