Thought this might throw open a bit of discussion.
Both from the jumps and the flat, which jockeys do you like and which do you dislike? ? ?
If you fancied a horse and had a jockey on that you disliked, would that potentially sway you to leave the horse alone in that specific race? ? ?
For me, on the flat i think Ryan Moore is absolutely different class to Sanders and Spencer. Moore has a great racing clock in his head and is a much better jockey.
Over-rated on the flat, im not a great fan of Richard Hills and as you will have noticed in the past, im not a fan of Jamie Spencer either.
I think Adam Kirby is also a very under-rated jockey on the flat.
As for the jumps, im not a big fan of Richard Johnson or Graham Lee, i dont like the way Graham Lee puts horses into the race and im just not a fan of Johnson in general.
Paddy Brennan keeps on getting better too in my opinion since he changed stables.
Thanks.
Gareth.
November 6, 2007 at 19:51 #123267Thinking mainly about NH I won’t single anyone out but I dislike jockeys who drop horses out right at that back when they could sit six lengths closer and still achieve the same effect.
Not keen on Fallon – never been able to pick his ‘style’ – to me he can make a classic winner look like a selling plater. Always got the impression he could find trouble in a two horse race if he wanted to.
November 6, 2007 at 19:56 #123269Adam is very good but struggles with his weight as he is so tall.
Hopefully he can keep going as he has done us proud riding Teddy to both his victories and has a narrow defeat and two fourths to his name on Taj from three rides.November 6, 2007 at 20:04 #123272Adam is very good but struggles with his weight as he is so tall.

November 6, 2007 at 20:13 #123278Graham Lee is my favourite jockey…..as he tends to ride for us . He has great timing and rarely makes a mistake.
November 6, 2007 at 20:18 #123280If I had one criticism of Lee, it is that sometimes he struggles to get horses to settle. I wonder if it is linked to a broken arm he suffered a few seasons ago. He swears a lot too! Or he did after Saif Sareea tried his best to run away with him at Musselburgh what seems many moons ago now.
November 6, 2007 at 20:43 #123289I used to rate Daryll Holland, but he’s lost his touch. Not sure if it’s confedence or what.
November 6, 2007 at 20:52 #123290Fav jockeys outside of the obvious ones;
Flat:Rab Havlin
NH: Wayne HutchinsonNovember 6, 2007 at 22:16 #123308I like Graham Lee; may be wrong but he seems like a genuinely nice bloke – he rode a horse up at Kelso which had had an overeach or something and he was really concerned about it. I also used to like Norman Williamson – I think in general I like jockeys who seem to have a respect for the horses……
November 6, 2007 at 22:19 #123309Fav jockey full stop: Christophe Soumillon
Fav NH other than obvious ones: Andrew GlassonburyNovember 6, 2007 at 22:21 #123310My honest opinion is that there is not much difference among the top jockeys. One who makes a difference is Ryan Moore, who is the most talented rider in England at the moment imo. The other ones … well I like them when they win with the horse I bet and I dislike them when they lose with the horse I bet.
November 6, 2007 at 22:50 #123319Well i only follow jump racing and some american racing.
Favourate jump jock are
Andy Thornton-really nice guy,who is always at his best on a 3 mile plus chaser,a good horseman and care about the horse.
Graeme Lee-great jockey who doesnt over use the whip, and i know others will not agree but he is good at getting horses to settle.
2 jocks i dont rate-
Tony McCoy-Old helicopter arms, ill be shot down for this but i think hes overrated(which doesnt make sense as he rides so many winners)
Perfect for old Martin Pipe who had a quick turn around with alot of horses, the kind that would win 5 on the bounce then dissapear.Richard Johnson-hes lost the plot the last few seasons seems to have lost the fire he once had,and quite like laying his mounts for hobbs in novice hurdles
November 6, 2007 at 23:29 #123321for me one of my favorate jump jockeys is Tom Scudamore i dunno what it is but it mainly been since riding for pipey
November 7, 2007 at 00:14 #123326Fav NH other than obvious ones: Andrew Glassonbury
Handed in his license I think…
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Ruby – Since i’ve been watching racing he’s the best i’ve seen over the jumps. Tom O’Brien I like but I think Farrelly is possibly the best young talent around, seems to understand racing better than most. He can obviously ride as well.
Hills gets a lot of knocks but if you look at his percentages he’s no mug even if he is riding for a powerful owner..
Flat – Pasquier
November 7, 2007 at 06:05 #123337Why has Andrew Glassonbury handed in his license? I’m not sure what hes like overall, but I do remember some brilliant rides.
November 7, 2007 at 06:11 #123338I heard (or read) somewhere that he has become a little disillusioned with racing and is taking a break from the game.
Colin
November 7, 2007 at 08:56 #123352NH i’d most definitely say Ruby Walsh and Timmy Murphy. A horse called Puntal, seen him coax it round and was best bit of riding i’d seen a jockey do.
Over the flat i’d have to say Fallon. He was just astounding but more recently Ryan Moore.
Royston Ffrench is a really decent rider too up in the northern circuit. And always says hello and gives a smile to my son whenever we’re near by. Very sweet of him. Wish he’d flash some tips as well but there you go…
