Get each jockey’s actual weight per ride over the previous year on a rolling basis, and average it for each.
New rule: a trainer must not book a jock to ride below that average.
Growth allowance for apprentices.

August 16, 2023 at 20:44 #1659898As I understand it, saunas aren’t an everyday thing for the majority of jocks – more a crisis service they want from time to time. Most have overall control of a healthy riding weight and that weight would be the dominant figure in the data, I would think, were the solution I’ve proposed taken up.
PJA chair Nick Attenborough said today that saunas are the number one issue for jockeys, a comment I found interesting given the whip/disqualification/fines/bans are by far the major talking points in public. I doubt they will ever solve it by raising weights, giving extra covid-time-like allowances etc, so why not take the responsibility away from the jockeys altogether and pass it to trainers? Winning rides will be missed for some, but in the great scheme of things it’ll even out.
