Mister Fisher convinces me more than the rest as far as jumping is concerned. He has had a nice prep too, winning well here over the trip and then having a sharpener over 2 miles when his jumping and resolution held up well under pressure coming over the last couple beside Al Dancer.
Paddy Power are going 4 places and while I don’t normally bet EW as short as 6-1 I think it’s a very reasonable EW price as I don’t think he’ll be out of the 4.March 12, 2020 at 09:44 #1485649Wouldnt be concerned about the formline with easy game, he didnt stay.
Agree regarding 12 yos on the downgrade but this is such a bad race that should he run either of the last two races he will win
First or last
March 12, 2020 at 10:42 #1485656Trouble with horses on the downgrade is their form on each performance is usually worse than the previous start. ie Form seldom stands still… And the downgrade rarely on a straight downward slope either, losing more pounds the older they get. So if Faugheen is on the downgrade (isn’t clear yet, with only one run as evidence) he’s unlikely to run to either of his last two efforts.
If today’s market move is about confidence behind Faugheen’s current ability then could be a good sign. But Faugheen is a public horse who we all love. Is it money where the heart rules the head?
Where as Samcro’s place in people’s hearts has wained a little. Both horses have their obvious good points, but big question marks too. Itchy Feet may not have the public following – especially from a less well known (underestimated) trainer – but his chase form isn’t far (if anything) behind the Irish duo – and seems certain to run to form/improve.
Head rules the heart.
I have Itchy Feet.Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2020 at 11:18 #1485666I too love Faugheen . You just suspect he will find a few too good.
Samcro. I dont know if there was something wrong with him last day or whether he is just soft but one would be poor from backing him. Id like 6/1 before Id consider it.I think one of the Mullins outsiders could run well at each way. Is that Baupaume or Melon?

March 12, 2020 at 12:11 #1485675It’s really pushing it for win purposes, but I like Midnight Shadow here.
Certainly put in his place by Itchy Feet, but he runs ok here, and the fall of Champ distracts the fact that he was catching him in The Dipper (he wouldn’t have won).
He’s also a winner of a Relkeel and a Scottish Champion Hurdle, and I like Horses who continually produce in the bigger races.
Midnight Shadow 20’s EW 4 Places
March 12, 2020 at 12:31 #1485688After your post Vtc, I’ve had another look at the form and you could be right. However, imo a place only bet at 4.8/1 is the way to go.
Now on Annie MC and Itchy Feet with savers on Samcro and Midnight Shadow.
Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2020 at 13:02 #1485694Yeah GT, he should run his race, but I’d be surprised if he won. Delighted, but still surprised.
March 12, 2020 at 13:10 #1485698Samcro is in the last chance saloon with me …..and I’ve just called final orders ….
March 12, 2020 at 13:26 #1485706Heart ruling head I’ve added Bapaume 25s ew 4pl as well. Back at his optimum trip with Rachael giving him a sympathetic ride he could run on up the hill to place.
Tornado Flyer is the only one of the Mullins horses to have not to be past their peak hurdlers (for want of a kinder expression) but I fear it might come a bit soon in his recovery from a lung infection (same happened last year- has he got a dodgy pair of bellows like Samcro?)
March 12, 2020 at 13:30 #1485708Itchy Feet 20-1 ew, Samcro 6-1 ew free bet.
March 12, 2020 at 13:37 #1485709Wow!!!! What a race……
March 12, 2020 at 13:38 #1485711Get in Samcro!
March 12, 2020 at 13:39 #1485712…….I’ve just lost 5 years of life … Jesus h
March 12, 2020 at 13:41 #1485713Well that was fun
Well done winners, great to see Samcro coming up the hill. Both horses so game in the finish and even old Faugheen trying his heart out
March 12, 2020 at 13:41 #1485714This is no after timing, but under Ruby Walsh he might have gone a lot closer. Ruby was not one to give up the inside position too lightly.
March 12, 2020 at 13:42 #1485715Race of the festival for me. Samcro travelled and jumped beautifully apart from the second last but I thought Melon had nailed him on the line until the freeze frame gave me hope!
March 12, 2020 at 13:46 #1485718You watch it in real time and melon looks the winner ….Elliot is some man , I put him above Mullins in the way he can turn these horses around , samcro travelled and jumped superbly
