Since Galileos first crop hit the turf in 2005 Jim Bolger has had:

2006 European Champion Juvenile – Teofilo

2007 European Champion Juvenile and dual Guineas runner up 2008 Derby Winner who may well go on to be Champion 3yo – New Approach

2007 Goffs Fillies Million Winner (on debut) and impressive 2008 Musidora and Coronation Stakes winner – Lush Lashes

2008 Unbeaten Albany Stakes Winner – Cuis Ghaire

Not to mention Heliostatic a pretty impressive 2yo who never really went on to be brilliant at 3yo, but who was a full brother to Soldier Of Fortune, who bolger also bred and sold to coolmore. Also the impressive 2006 Oaks favorite Galatee, who was pulled out two days before the race when looking like she was all over the race. Also a string of other horses like Prima Luce, Luminous One (Cuis Ghaire’s sister)etc.

When you look at what everyone else has achieved with Galileos, Sixties Icon, Red Rocks, Purple Moon and Soldier Of Fortune have probably been the best of the rest.

What is Jim Bolger doing that no-one else is doing? Are his mares just that much better? Is he training them differently? Are they all on some new fangled undetectable supersteroids?

It is pretty fair to say that although Galileo has proven himself a very good sire, Bolger seems to get a different class of horse than anyone else has even come close to.

New Aproach and Teofilo (both from different mares) was too much of a coincidence for me, but when you look at Lush Lashes and Cuis Ghaire aswell a pattern is emerging. I think he is probably getting more success, horse per horse from galileo than coolmore had from danehill. But how is he doing it?

I have recently read that Bolger has gone on record stating "Aiden (O’Brien) advised me to get as many of his (Galileo) as i could."

Actually one who I forgot about who is trained outside Bolgers yard, and probably the only that really compares to Bolgers, in terms of speed, is Dermot Welds 2006 Irish 1,000 guineas winner Nightime. Although she did win that race in a bit of a quagmire, and didnt ever really handle quicker ground the way his super horses are.

Surprising still though that coolmore, and more specifically O’brien, has not found one of these speedier sorts from his batch.
