7 days, seems very harsh.

May 19, 2021 at 00:12 #1541499Incredibly harsh. G&T’s were flowing in the Stewards room presumably. To name but two examples, compare Watson nearly being decked to Bridget Andrews on Langar Dan at Rasen, and SDS on Stone of Destiny at HQ, to name but two absolutely blatant non-triers ignored by the Stewpids.

May 19, 2021 at 00:48 #1541503Just watched the race, agree this seems very harsh. Hopefully he’ll appeal and get it overturned.
Stewards were as per the below, so the panel included some ex-jockeys which makes it even more puzzling:
Steve Drowne (Chief Steward), Caroline Tellwright (Stewards’ Panel Chair), Fergus
Sweeney (Steward), Alice Cosgrove (Social Distancing Officer), Stephanie Farmer
(Assistant Steward), Michael Eyre (Raceday Assistant)May 19, 2021 at 10:29 #1541510Jason watson had a similar scenario on Saturday at newbury. (My selection Dukebox, actually won there so I’ve no complaints) Honky Tonk Man didnt break smartly and was allowed to finish in his own time. He was interviewed after newbury and his explanation was noted.
The Stewards clearly do not wish to see allowing the horse to finish in its own time become a regular habit/excuse for the jockey. Perhaps they decided to make an example of him or just lay the law down to him to nip it in the bud.
They would have accepted it from an older jockey imo. Stewards do talk to each other, so perhaps Newbury had been in touch or they were aware of the stewards report.
I have no view on the case, just observering. Bearing in mind though that he did the same on Saturday, I’d anticipate the appeal failing.May 19, 2021 at 11:50 #1541516Very harsh. I think anyone who backed the horse would have accepted his chance was lost. Are the stewards in effect saying the horse making its debut should have been vigorously ridden along from the outset and subjected to an unnecessary hard race?
May 19, 2021 at 12:42 #1541520I think this may have arisen from it being the second similar incident. It does seem harsh. Perhaps they might like to have a word with Charlton over the preparedness of his young horses.
May 20, 2021 at 14:11 #1541591The fact that Steve Drowne and Fergus Sweeney were on the panel tells me that the decision was probably correct.

If that was Dettori in Watsons place, they would have done nowt. Guaranteed.
