J.P McManus has some seriously good horses now. I wonder if AP McCoy occasionally wishes his employer had bought the same sort of stock when he was riding…

Well, he clearly buys more chasing types and if he goes for a gamble it is with a very decent horse and not one that was campaigned by Skelton’s methods of handicapping a horse.

But, he really has a few very decent chasers in his ownership.

Fair play to him. I struggle to understand the attraction of buying an already highly rated horse though. Proves nothing other than you’ve got more money than the other bidders. He has the means to breed the very best himself.

Agree with that, but I wonder why he almost never came up with “that” horse from France which might have rather been offered to the Riccis, Connellys or Turleys. You feel that he only gets the 2nd strings from France. At least that’s my impression…..

Mine too. Seems like team Mullins has better buyers. Sad that racing has come to this.

I Am Maximus was owned by the late Claudio Grech until the day he died. His horses were sold to different owners and all moved from their initial trainers. Maybe JP felt that Nico might not be the ideal jockey for him. I think he does that quite often.

Once Jonbon went hurdling Aidan Coleman replaced Nico in every race. Since his (Coleman’s) injury occured, Nico got the ride back.

Thanks ERL , didnt realise the change of ownership .
I found the Millins interview after Mystical Power race , i took out of it hes not convinced hes good enough to stay hurdling , not convinced hes will be suited to chasing after a novice chase season and could go on flat at some point but that will cook him for jumps racing . Maybe JP tries for Melbourne Cup campaign at some point .

That would be fascinating if he does indeed map out a Melbourne cup bid.

I’ve said before, if he had serious ability, he’d have gone straight to Aidan’s…….He obviously didn’t and isn’t good enough for decent races on the Flat.

So he now has Fact to File, Inothewayurthinkin, Corbetts Cross and I am Maximus who all four should head to the Gold Cup. I wonder how many will turn up.

If Galopin Des Champs retains his form, he’ll beat them all.

Mystical Power is pounds ahead of horse like True Self over hurdles , Mullins took her over twice , she almost got into Cup twice , won two group races at Flemington , almost won a Geelong Cup . Ex Hurdlers come over to OZ regularly and go very well, the staying division is weak bar the imports .

I thought the same when he made his debut at Ballinrobe of all places. However, Willie regularly commented on the build up to Cheltenham that he had surprised him on the track as he’s a poor work horse. That’ll likely be the reason he didn’t end up at Ballydoyle. He strikes me as the ideal type for a flat campaign. He looks to be a better horse than Vauban.

I am Maximus had already left Henderson when JP acquired him. Grech moved his entire string to Ireland

“Having had success in Ireland, he decided to move his entire team across the Irish Sea, with Knight saying the decision had been taken due to the owner working more over there.

Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Joseph O’Brien sent out runners for Grech in Ireland. Following the dispersal of Grech’s team of horses, the Mullins-trained Brandy Love went on to race in the new ownership of Joe and Marie Donnelly, while stablemate I Am Maximus was sold to JP McManus shortly before his triumph in the Irish Grand National.”

Reckon he’d give Henry Adams a run for his money
