“Starmer thought if he gets a fine it’ll mean Johnson would have to go.
Now he must be regretting his beer.“

    No case to answer.

“OK, she is priced up at 999/1 but why is Jo Swinson even quoted in Betfair’s Next Prime Minister market?
The next PM is not going to be a Liberal Democrat and certainly not a Liberal Democrat who is no longer an MP and whose defeat even caused some of her own party to celebrate, such was her unpopularity”.

    ————————-

Swinson could win a by election.
Ed Davy could resign as Liberal leader.
Then Conservatives could get in another fix and Labour could get in a scandal in the same way as the Conservatives did with Partygate.
So it is just about possible.

I believe Swinson has been in the market for some time, possibly 999/1 even a couple of years ago.
Now we are closer to another general election and 999/1 is certainly no value; but betfair can’t go any longer.

Starmer cleared – the lawyer knew the law after all.

    Congratulations Sir Kier.
He did tell Johnson he should resign just for being under investigation by the Police though.

Amazon have mistakenly sent me a consignment of straws, GT, but I need to put them down for a bit as I am a tad busy.

Could you clutch at them for me please?

As your own order suggests my friend…
You know you’re at least as able if not more able to clutch those straws as I am.

Labour and the SNP must be disappointed with Johnson’s departure, his flaws were so overt, and he had become so unpopular, especially in Scotland.

Who is the most moderate candidate please?

While some right-wing zealot might usher in a 2024 Labour win, we’ve all got to live that long first.

Who is closest ideologically to Starmer?

I’m guessing Tungendhat, but happy to be corrected?

Always a big mistake to call a vote of no confidence because when push comes to shove the rebel MPs will rally around the government itself and the government regains momentum by winning.

That’s what I thought. But then I realised that the ones that vote against ( or do I mean for it? ) it will be shown to be MP’s who are defending the lack of honesty and integrity shown by Johnson proving that they’re as bad as him ( which we know anyway but it just proves the point).

Tugendhat was good and very eloquent regarding Afghanistan because he had a personal knowledge of the country and a loyalty towards the Afghan people that he worked with. But his voting record is still pretty appalling. And he voted for a bill that would remove some sort of financial help for disabled war veterans. Schapps was involved in a scheme to make people ‘stinking rich’ which was exposed by the Guardian and mentioned on Ch4 news last night. Might be why he’s withdrawn today. That along with having no support. Mordaunt worked for George Bush at one time so, if she was in America she would be a Republican (boo hiss). Braverman gained her law degree via the Erasmus scheme but as a staunch brexiteer has taken that away from young people now. Hunt, as Health Secretary presided over operation Cygnus which showed that we were ill prepared to cope with a probable pandemic. He ignored it. He used to support fox hunting: not something that would go down well with many. He does (like Turgendhat) look and speak like a normal human being though. Which might not actually be an advantage. Zahawi is under investigation over his tax although he is denying it so not sure how true that is. Several of them eulogise about how their parents or grandparent were welcomed to this country as refugees or migrants of some kind. But now support a policy that would have sent them to Rwanda. Dorries says Truss is more of a brexiteer than any of them having forgotten that Truss was a remainer. How Truss must have groaned when she came out in support of her. Loathsome ( as a mother) seems to be supporting one of the women candidates because she’s a woman (possibly Mordaunt: my concentration was beginning to waver). Are they all really being given £300,000 to stand or will the ones that have stood down eg Schapps not get that amount? And does it come from Conservative party funds? Or the taxpayer. They all support Rwanda. And all they talk about is tax cuts. Not helping people pay their energy bill. Not having to use food banks. How about ‘education education education’ for a slogan? My daughter went into teaching at that time but left under the current Conservative government (s) totally burnt out and demoralised. And, if there’s such a wealth of talent in this group of candidates ( as we’re being told there is) why is the country in such a mess? Why is Sunak promising to repair the economy that he has been responsible for for three years? My brain well and truly hurts with it all.

    Moe

Excuse me if I say this but sunak wasn’t actually responsible for covid and Ukraine (although some would probably claim he was). This weird take on what he said is being thrown about by the left and perhaps they should take into account that EVERY world economy needs repairing

Nothing at all wrong with his statement
