That betting worries me a bit.
Lizz Truss – well she isn’t great under questioning, struggles with speeches and has poor sense of humour. Remember the cheese speech?Sunak may have the best chance with the public although whether Conservative elderly members will vote for him remains to be seen.
imo Best Prime Minister’s brain of the lot is Gove, but will the public see it that way?
Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2022 at 17:42 #1577705Would Gove even make it to the final two? Plenty of Conservative MPs do not like or trust him.
January 12, 2022 at 17:56 #1577711If I was going to be tempted to vote Conservative I’d possibly be tempted if someone like Tom Tugendhat or Tobias Elwood was leader. Or Rory Stewart but he’s gone anyway. Unfortunately Johnson has tried to create a party in his own image, which isn’t a good one. At least we’re now in an Emperors New Clothes situation. Why did it take so long?
January 12, 2022 at 18:11 #1577714The question is, who does Murdoch want to be leader? Gove doesn’t seem to be his blue eyed boy any more.
January 12, 2022 at 18:17 #1577717The plus point of giving Gove the job is that spitting image can recycle there Ronnie Corbett puppet for him
January 12, 2022 at 18:25 #1577721Don’t have to like someone to believe he / she is the right person for the job CAS.
Besides. One of the reasons why he hasn’t been liked is when he originally stood against Boris – when May was elected. However, although Gove was criticised by otherv MPs for what he said about Boris in 2016; he has in some ways been proven right about Boris.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2022 at 18:27 #1577722The problem with Gove is there,s rumours circulating there,s dirt about him ….Sunak will surely be the choice
January 12, 2022 at 18:33 #1577723Boris was always going to be a liability, he’s an out and out liar and was
bound to come to grief at some point. I was going to say that Gove wouldn’t
be popular as he’s liable to stab you in the back, but he didn’t even have the
good grace to do that to Boris in early days, it was a full frontal, straight
in the chest.I don’t think Labour have got it together yet, so whoever takes over the reins
for the Tories will probably get back in. The last Tory government to win in
Scotland was 1955, but we’ll no doubt get them again anyway
January 12, 2022 at 18:33 #1577724That’s a good point HDLG.
Conservatives and the public will probably want someone who’s spotlessly clean after Boris.Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2022 at 18:37 #1577725He won’t get the gig but, IMO, by far the most decent and honourable Conservative MP in recent years was Rory Stewart.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 12, 2022 at 18:38 #1577726It’s impossible to understand what on earth they were thinking about. The lack of judgement by everyone involved is baffling and he is now so diminished that I cant see a way back from this
The only vaguely comparable incident I can think of with the lies is Clinton and Lewinsky but that’s nowhere near this level
Truss? No
Sunak definitely. He lacks political antennae at times but is very capable and smart
Gove it should be but hes seen too toxic for reasons I dont really understand
I dont agree at all about prejudice fro members stopping sunak. Tbe Tories focus on winners ruthlessly and the same was of course said about Thatcher

100% – plenty of them never liked Johnson, but they could see he could do a job for them at the time.
If they think Sunak can beat Starmer in 2024, he will get the gig.

January 12, 2022 at 19:10 #1577734Gove been in to the 1922 committee defending Boris ….what’s that glinting in the light
January 12, 2022 at 19:12 #1577736Still well over two years away, but I predict a hung Parliament and zero enthusiasm from the Lib Dems or the SNP to form a coalition with them even if the Tories are the largest party.
I think both will reckon after 14 years it’s time for a change of government and work with Starmer.

He did admit to taking cocaine more than once.
Some people might think that is not a big deal nowadays and it is obvious he is not the only politician who has done so.
However, it is still (in theory at least) a criminal offence that carries a prison sentence. Not a good look for someone trying to become Prime Minister. And who knows what else he might have done?
The Conservative Party members (predominantly middle class and elderly) have the final vote and they are not likely to be impressed by someone who has admitted such behaviour.
January 12, 2022 at 19:25 #1577738Cork there,s a rumour of something else to come out ….no doubt it,ll be out soon , Sunak is the safe bet and they need safe just now , get through covid and then test the water
