….does he now really want him to?
Has “mortally wounded” Johnson become the dream opponent?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 12, 2022 at 14:30 #1577661Directly calling for him to resign makes it less likely he will. Instead, he will probably brazen it out, unless more information is forthcoming. Which would probably finish him off.
But to say “I was at a party but did not realise it was a party” is piss taking of Olympian standards.
January 12, 2022 at 14:38 #1577664I think we both know it’s not Johnson’s call any more than it’s Starmer’s.
Regardless of your politics, anyone can see that in our lifetimes the Conservative Party has proved an Election-winning machine and they have accomplished this in two ways.
1. They get behind their leader in a way the forever-factionalised Labour Party never does.
2. But when they sense their leader has become a liability the Tories are absolutely ruthless and there are no second chances.
The Opposition, the media and the public, via opinion polls, will have their say, which will be noted, but it is the Tory backbenchers who will bring Johnson down (if it happens) and they will now be weighing up the pros and cons.

January 12, 2022 at 15:15 #1577671The Tories have ridden the wave of English nationalism v skilfully, so whether Johnson goes or not may not matter that much. Sunak would perhaps take over, tho I bet Gove is sharpening his knife somewhere. At least they are preferable to Liz Truss and Dominic Raab
January 12, 2022 at 15:19 #1577673I actually woke up this morning with the same sort of joie de vivre*
that I usually have on Cheltenham Tuesday/Grand National morn. PMQT was such fun….
*or joie de Vivienne according to auto correct (who’s Vivienne?)January 12, 2022 at 15:20 #1577674Can you honestly see the Tory faithful supporting Sunak? No, me neither.
Trouble is, nobody with two brain cells to rub together (okay, I appreciate they’re Conservatives, but still…) would want the job. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. The 1922 Committee might find that nobody actually wants this particular poisoned chalice.
January 12, 2022 at 15:23 #1577675Liz Truss does. I doubt if she would know what a poisoned chalice is even if it hit her in the face…

Westwood? She seems like she’s had a pretty good time during her life.
January 12, 2022 at 15:33 #1577678Just had a look on Oddschecker and Sunak is 2-1 favourite to be next Conservative leader, with Truss 3-1 and 9-1 bar the two.
That’s bound to fluctuate wildly.
January 12, 2022 at 15:37 #1577682It’s always better to follow a bad PM than a good 1 …they,ll be a few happy to have a go , Johnson was horrific today , even worse than usual , the no apology apology , the word ” Spieler ” has 2 meanings …both apply to Boris
January 12, 2022 at 15:38 #1577683Is is not telling Sunak was as far away as possible from Westminster ….business meeting in Devon …that,ll do
January 12, 2022 at 15:43 #1577685Devon? Closer than California, I suppose.
January 12, 2022 at 16:02 #1577688Boris problem now is he,s told that many lies he can’t remember what the original lie was …. Any word when the Met police are knicking him …he has just admitted to breaking the rule he set ….he,ll like parkhurst , plenty sea air
January 12, 2022 at 16:17 #1577690Bozo in prison? He’d be like the fat guy who gets beaten to death by Byron Hadley in Shawshank.

Value Is EverythingJanuary 12, 2022 at 16:47 #1577697Boris’s character has been a vote winner for the Tories in the past but now it will always be very much a vote loser.
Suppose if the e-mail invite was to workers in number 10, then may be he could get away with it.
ie It is safer to be outside and they would only be “working” / talking outside… Which is safer than working / talking inside. But language used in the invite doesn’t sound like work and will be seen by the public as a “party”. The “bring your own booze” sounds like a party, although if you’re incredibly partisan could be just a case of bringing your own drinks is safer than handling someone else’s. But did it also say bring your own glasses and nibbles? Nah.Come on Bojo.
This Tory says “Resign”.
