Jim ….telling it like it is ….
November 28, 2024 at 06:07 #1714218I saw another episode recently where once again the winning team decided to keep their prizes and not gamble.
The two women who finished runners up with something like £250 were asked back. They decided to go for the star prize.
The non darts player’s first two darts both missed and clattered onto the floor. Her third dart scored 7, leaving the darts player to score 94. She scored something like 30. Jim commiserated and advised them they would have won a holiday in Mexico.
As Glad said earlier up the thread, the contestants must have found out they were going on the show at least several weeks before. Why didn’t the non darts players have a practice? Even allowing for nerves, this one looked like she had never held a dart before.
November 28, 2024 at 07:49 #1714219It’s being brought back next month with Andrew Flintoff at the helm. ITV did a piece about it during their coverage last weekend when they also dug out footage of pundit Alan Warriner-Little appearing as the darts playing contestant. He was later on as a pro.
November 28, 2024 at 19:23 #1714269I saw an episode tonight where the professional darts player throwing for charity scored 265 with his first six darts. Anything over 36 with his last three darts would have meant his total score was doubled.
He hit single five, treble five and another single five. Only 25 to add to his 265, to finish on 290. Talk about bottling it!
The winning contestants decided not to gamble. The runners up had £290 and gambled. The non darts player scored 46 and the darts player got 54, leaving them 1 short on 100! They would have won a holiday and safari in Kenya.
The thought occurred to me that if they were not interested in wildlife, paying £290 to not go on safari might not have been a bad deal.

The only thing is when they won the star prize the end credits used to whizz by so fast.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.November 28, 2024 at 22:50 #1714294Very funny is Peter Kaye.

December 4, 2024 at 19:13 #1714734I’ve been watching some of the episodes over the last few days. The couples who’ve won the star prize have been sent off on holidays. Those who failed to reach the score of 101 would’ve won a car or a caravan if they prevailed. All sounds like a damn scam!
The last thing I’d want would to be sent packing on a poxy holiday. They can shove their darts where the sun don’t shine.December 4, 2024 at 23:08 #1714742When I used to watch it, they give the winning pair the chance to win the star prize with six darts. If they don’t want to gamble they bring on the second pair who probably have around a hundred pounds. This was before they upped the prize money to a grand for quiz shows. If they refuse they then bring back the third pair. The third pair going for the star prize was rare but it had happened a few times. In my mind I wondered what would happen if they refused. Does Jim Bowen have to put his wages up for a throw
