Just seen an episode of the classic 1980s quiz show on Challenge TV.

In the prize board round, the darts player contestant won prizes with 5 of his 6 darts: washing machine, answering machine, coffee table, set of board games and a weekend for two in Amsterdam.

The quiz player contestant (the wife of the darts player) put 1 of her darts into a black space with no prize and missed the board altogether with her other 2 darts.

When Jim Bowen asked them if they wanted to gamble all the prizes against the mystery star prize or keep what they had won, the man confidently announced they would gamble – despite having just seen his wife giving a passable impression of not being able to hit a barn door.

Needless to say she scored 9 with her 3 darts: a single 2, a single 7 and narrowly missing double 17. Needing 92, he scored 60 with 3 darts in single 20, narrowly missing the treble with his second dart.

I don’t mind a gamble but I think I would have taken the prizes and run!

    It was a caravan.

I cannot remember seeing an episode where the prize for hitting the bullseye on the prize board was a holiday. It was usually something like a television set.

    Or a canteen of cutlery.

What I could never understand was why the non-darts players didn’t start practising the moment they heard that they were going on the programme. 🤷‍♂️

The prizes that he had were probably better and more useful than a speedboat or caravan too!

I was too young for Bullseye first time round but it surely inspired Big Break which I used to love.

It is hard to imagine someone like Jim Bowen or especially Jim Davidson getting a prime BBC or ITV presenting job like that these days!

The darts player obviously forgot which prizes equalled which number. He did not throw a single dart at 7, where the prize was a camera – the best prize on the board after the holiday.

His wife was so nervous, she had almost thrown her second dart before the first one had hit the board. Despite Jim and Tony doing the “Take your time, there’s no rush, you’ve got all the time in the world” routine.

Jim Bowen, “Would you like to see what you would have won?”

Purwell, “No, shove it up your arse!”

“still want to see how he episode with murderer on it , he was on crimewatch”

the speedboat would have come in handy for a quick getaway when on the run
Don’t know why he was nicked the “bullseye” killer? He was only on it once

‘Don’t know why he was nicked the “bullseye” killer?’

    Maybe he killed 50 people.

Tony Green has died aged 85. He was a good commentator on darts for the BBC before landing the role as Jim Bowen’s sidekick.

I saw an episode of “Bullesye” on Challenge TV earlier. The winners managed to get quite a lot of the prizes, so they decided not to gamble.

The team which had finished second were asked back. They had won £206 and decided to gamble.

The “non darts player” went first and hit treble twenty, single twenty and treble seven to score 101. The darts player didn’t need to throw!

Only three darts needed and they won a car.

There’s a cracker of an episode where when they win the star prize and instead of a car being pushed through the lads won a choice from a clothes collection …full on 80s garb ….there was 2 very pissed off faces as Jim said goodnight …
