I don’t actually mind it.
Keeps the energy bills down for a start.
But here in Hampshire it’s been somewhat warm today.
I went in a corner shop and bought a can of Mirinda, a carbonated strawberry drink.
From Spain, I think.
There’s something about the taste of these drinks from outside the UK.
Evocative of holidays abroad.
For a moment I was in the Mediterranean – then I looked up and remembered I was in a suburb of Basingstoke called Black Dam.
It’s going to be a bit hot for a while.

Makes me laugh when the weatherman says things like it hotter than Spain. I know where I’d rather be.

Not as hot as on the surface of the Sun either.
But it’s still “a bit hot.”

I don’t mind it at all. Love it around 30 although over 35 gets tough at times.
The met office forecast (which doesn’t overdo it) really is for a lot of heat for at least a month in the south. This could be a 76 or 2018 (or was it 17?) down here.

Mind you I’ll never forget New Orleans and it being genuinely like a sauna at three in the morning. Now that is heat
July 11, 2022 at 20:49 #1606548Not as hot as 76…yet. We were all a lot younger then too!
I don’t really care for it and glad I live by the sea. I bet it’s already like hell in the cities and set to get hotter. Predict it will break before Goodwood as my tickets arrived last week!July 11, 2022 at 22:03 #1606560‘There’s something about the taste of these drinks from outside the UK.’
It’s the sugar, they’ve massively reduced it in most drinks here due to the tax and replaced it with vile tasting sweeteners.

Yes they love to pick whatever hot country we happen to be hotter than for that day. Somehow I don’t think the Spanish spend the other 364 days crowing about how it’s hotter than Britain.
July 11, 2022 at 22:09 #1606562I’m not sure it’s that, Richard.
I remember when on 1980s holidays in countries like Greece, Sicily – anywhere in the Mediterranean, really – the local canned soft drinks tasted just, well “different” and that’s what I got from today’s beverage.
Maybe it’s just me.

I’ve brought food or drinks back from abroad because I’ve enjoyed them there and it’s just not the same once you’re home. One exception to this is Georgian wine, the stuff is fantastic and sells for a song by our standards.
July 11, 2022 at 22:24 #1606566Spent the day at Birkdale watching the opening day of Lancashire v Somerset.
It was warm, to say the least. Just occasionally a hint of a sea breeze made it cooler but only for a while.
I called it a day about 5pm despite there being at least an hour still to play. There is only so long I can sit around in the baking sun while watching the Red Rose get hit all around the ground. Still good value for £10 though.
The hottest temperatures I have experienced were in Andalucia. The heat in Cordoba was brutal.
July 11, 2022 at 22:35 #1606569At least it cools down at night here. I was away recently and it was mid 20s even at night. High 30s in the day, even walking to the bakery at 7.30am it was boiling. I love it though. Don’t cope well with the cold at all. As Clive says, around 30 is ideal.

Nice to hear some Counties still have “out grounds.”
Since Hampshire tarted up the Rose Bowl, Basingstoke lost its one and only County game and everything seems to be at HQ.

I’d like to think they can keep the momentum up for finals day Saturday
I like the out grounds. Bath and Weston were always the first I’d look for when the fixtures came out.
I did go to Guilford, Surrey about 20 plus years ago and that was the hottest cricket game I had been to. I think it maybe because the stands are not covered so you don’t get any shade. My brother ended up crawling under the ice cream van to get a bit of shade.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 11, 2022 at 23:59 #1606585I was still at school in 1976 or rather on my six week summer holiday.
