Take home made sandwiches and either eat them in the car park or smuggle them in in a binocular case… With a small bottle of tap water in a pocket.
Never pay the over-the-top food and drink prices at the races.

Even they are expensive. I was at Wolverhampton last summer and was charged £2.50 for a very small cup of tea.

And that’s just for the missus
March 18, 2022 at 00:07 #1588365Every year I’m more underwhelmed by the 4/7 festival, and the effect it has on the rest of the season, but the Gold Cup is always special; the pinnacle of NH racing, and that moment, half-way up the back straight on the second circuit, when the race really begins to take shape. As one commentator said, “Now we’re entering the torture chamber.’
March 18, 2022 at 12:33 #1588454My favourite race of the festival is today.
The County Hurdle, with 20+ runners jostling for position going down the hill, from two out to the last, is absolute chaos. I love it.
March 18, 2022 at 17:27 #1588671I missed the County Hurdle
I blame my hangover for that.
I wanted to see the Gold Cup and it proved to be exciting
and a good end to the festival and no sightings of the RSPCA lot.March 18, 2022 at 17:45 #1588694A nice piece of fish tonight
and a cup of tea now
Will sort me out !No regrets over Cheltenham
It was a winning festival
for racing – not many masks about – hopefully people haven’t caught a cold, but who knows maybe there were masks inside. It wasn’t mentioned by the pundits who stood a bit like stone statues with flexible mouths.March 18, 2022 at 17:55 #1588699Hearing the crowd noise before the last race, it sounds like lots of punters have been investing their money from five winning favourites in more and more pints from the Guinness tent. It sounded more like a football match.

I think we can very safely assume there were none inside either. Very difficult to drink Guinness through a mask.
It was not mentioned by the pundits because it is no longer a legal requirement to put a mask on. You are not seriously suggesting that all the crowd should have been masked in the open air? Never going to happen.
March 18, 2022 at 18:04 #1588703😄…a great pick up Corky –
They probably backed the Blackmore to a man, then bought the black cream
to finish the dream !March 18, 2022 at 18:07 #1588704No just wondered if the insiders had them on !
Yes the beer tents have
the hardy annuals in.
I was thinking of the
more genteel crowd
in the tea houses and
private boxes.March 18, 2022 at 18:16 #1588708Have you been hair-of-the-dogging today Gamble?
Cheltenham might be somewhat tarnished but there are still glints galore. A most enjoyable week, as ever
March 18, 2022 at 18:24 #1588711“I was thinking of the more genteel crowd in the tea houses and private boxes.”
I would be surprised if it was very many. I was in London on Monday and I would estimate that over half the passengers on the underground were not masked. If mask use is falling off a cliff even in that environment, I think there is very little chance of a racing crowd putting them on. Difficult to cheer home your winners!
March 18, 2022 at 18:25 #1588712Not a drop of alcohol today Drone. I enjoyed a really succulent steak last night and went out for a few bottles of wine plus the onions and mushrooms.
I’ve had two almond laced coffees today and two pots of black tea – no food at all !
I never drink alcohol before 6pm. I had a very stressful week and lost control.
I am teetotal again
Cold turkey tonight
Well fish actually
But you know what I mean.
There is 2/3rds of a wine bottle left which will tempt me.
Oh well the racing was very good and my one bet was a sign
of my discipline and modesty.
I hope you enjoyed the
Gee Gees too Drone !March 18, 2022 at 18:28 #1588713You were lucky gamble
my steak was that tough it invited me outside to a duelBlackbeard to conquer the World
March 18, 2022 at 18:28 #1588714Actually if everyone had put a mask on at the beginning – a sort of large practical joke.
I just wondered how the four elegantly dressed statues with the flexible mouths would of coped with explaining it.
They couldn’t have laughed it off 😃March 18, 2022 at 18:30 #1588715Well Nathan
It’s the way you tell ’em
always too well done -
