The message of responsible gambling is a bigger part of every bookmaker’s advertising than ever right now. Due to new legislation, free bet offers cannot be advertised on TV before the watershed and a percentage of windowspace must be devoted to responsible gambling. Above all, customers should be encouraged to only bet what they can afford to lose. You may have noticed the "When the fun stops, STOP" signage.
The message doesn’t seem to have reached BetVictor’s PR Man Jack Milner, whose Twitter activity is quite shocking as one of the public faces of a major bookmaker.
Milner regularly posts his tips, with ridiculously confident hashtags such as #onthesnaff #WorldHurdleWinner and so on, availing his followers to unload their savings on such ‘good things’ as Simonsig for the King George (non-runner), Monksland for the World Hurdle (beaten today at Gowran), Nitrogen at Exeter earlier in the week (well beaten) and Simply Ned to win the Champion Chase
. None of these are proffered as snippets of value, but "steering jobs" with his insanely foolhardy bluster. There is the odd winner in the flow of supposed bankers, but not nearly the amount you’d expect for animals portrayed as certainties. If that was not an irresponsible enough message, he takes the role as self-appointed king of the mug punters further by quietly deleting most of his losing tips from his feed after they get beaten. A new follower of Milner’s scanning back would, therefore, see only winners and take him to be a shrewdie. Maybe the easily-influenced would pile onto his next ‘mortgage job’. This is devious and surely unacceptable for someone in his position.
I’m not sure if Milner’s selective memory and reckless Twitter persona is for real. Is his behaviour part of his job specification? Even if not, this is a climate where footballers are fined for their Twitter antics on the grounds of ‘bringing the club into disrepute’. Milner is bringing the betting industry into disrepute.
Jack, you blocked me on Twitter after I cottoned-on to your trickery. I hope you look in here, take heed and turn things around.

So don't run, just like the others always do
January 22, 2015 at 22:49 #502493Last year Ricci Rich told Jack the lad that
‘Anne Power would be 100% running in the Champion Hurdle and to ignore the trainer comments’
Betvictor were shortest on Annie Power at 11/4 for his ‘real’ intended target the World Hurdle at the time……

I like Jack’s enthusiasm and confidence but he can come across cocky at times.
I don’t agree with deleting losing tweets.
People can post and/or delete what they like but that is very misleading and if it happened in the lays and plays of this forum the poster would be taken to town on it.
Shame, shame.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 23, 2015 at 11:13 #502507Many thanks for this. I blocked you because of your insulting and derogatory comments.
I don’t ‘tip up’ horses and delete them, and quite frankly did my bollocks yesterday on Monksland – see the tweets. As you said – #Shrewdie
Description on my PERSONAL Twitter account reads ‘PR for BetVictor, via Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. My thoughts, no-one else’s etc etc.’
If you take things such as ‘How Far’ and ‘On The Snaff’ as literally as they are then good luck to you.
And I have backed Simply Ned several times for the Champion Chase! Believe!
Cheers
January 23, 2015 at 17:26 #502550JJM, I’ve never insulted you. In fact, I’ve never insulted anyone on Twitter. I’m far from a troll – quite a courteous user for someone with lots of opinions. I don’t call people names, swear at people or incite hatred. I’m
if anyone wants to make a judgment on that. I think I only had three or four interactions with you on there all told.
We discussed Simply Ned. You said he wins the Champion Chase, while I said I think he’s just a mid-150s chaser. We talked about David Pipe’s horses and I told you that Red Sherlock is out for the season. Over time, I noticed your little tricks and rather cynically said "I wonder how long until JJM deletes that tweet" (it had already gone
) after one of your ‘good things’ lost. It seems like a bit of a conincidence that you decided to block straight after I rumbled you.Do you deny that you delete most of your losing tips then? I agree you didn’t hide away from Monksland, maybe because he ran with a modicum of promise, but what about the others? What about the ante-post losers? How about the under 3-1 horses who went down by more than 20 lengths? Night In Milan? Nitrogen?
Even with the ‘all views my own’ tag, you’ve got a certain duty as the face of a betting company. You’ve been on ATR and RUK – you’re a name and a face people do link to BetVictor. Even as an individual, there are some unwritten codes of conduct when putting yourself up as a tipster on any public platform:
– Don’t lie about the prices available
– Don’t hide your losersNo matter how serious you are, that’s just being an
honest human being
with a grip on reality and the self-confidence to take being wrong a few times. I laughed at Djakadam’s chances of winning the Thyestes in various places yesterday and took the ribbing when he won on the bridle.
January 23, 2015 at 21:14 #502577I very much doubt anyone will be sticking their mortgages on JJM’s tips TYF.
I have no idea about whether tweets are deleted or not but I have to spring to JJM’s defence to say that, as well as an acquaintance born through TRF, we have some contact via his role at BV and I have always found him to be a thoroughly straightforward person who is a pleasure to deal with.
And his light-hearted and humorous (as well as knowledgeable) approach to the game is a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of the staid members of his profession who do little more than trot out prices.I’d say BV are lucky to have him and racing in general needs more characters with a bit of personality about them.
Just to finish, if you want to thrash it out can you do it via pm.
January 23, 2015 at 21:30 #502579Good post Corm.
JJM sometimes talks some sh1t on here, as do we all but also offers decent contribution and the same goes for the young fella.
TYF – I really enjoy reading your posts and even your opening to this thread is well versed but it’s a community on here where like minded people come to enjoy discussion of our mutual passion and often disagree but normally in a respectful manner.
Your points may be valid re JJM – I have no idea either way – but please continue to do what you do so well, rather than this.

January 23, 2015 at 23:44 #502606Thanks for the responses everyone.
I’m a little disappointed if the resolution must be simply ending the thread. Some industry PR figures have been castigated on here simply for having unpopular opinions about punters or the levy. To me, it seems much more serious if one misleads people via a public forum.
Up to you though. I enjoy JJM’s excitable style and love for racing – it’s infectious and something we need more of. He’s a skillful article writer, a blogger I enjoy reading and very poised in front of the cameras. Most of my objections are from a responsible gambling viewpoint, but I see that BetVictor are not members of The Senet Group. Perhaps that says it all.
