I’m going for last year’s Foxhunters winner Tammys Hill in this. That race is usually a stayers’ test as they usually go so quick so will be hoping he can stay the trip here. Not raced since December so should be fresh. Also a bit on Perfect Gentleman for Ruby. Can’t believe it’s 10 years since Ruby won this on Numbersixvalverde. Time flies.
Good luck all
April 6, 2015 at 09:41 #873743Very difficult to desert Lots of Memories, who I thought would end up my #1, though I’m sure THM will be glad I aint jinxing him
Mullaghanoe River not declared so happy to stick with Lots Of Memories with The Job Is Right my second string. I see you’ve also backed that one so I’m not holding out much hope
Good luck all.
April 6, 2015 at 09:45 #873744I think these days you almost need more luck in running with this race than the actual Grand National. This year perhaps the slower ground might help things a little in this respect.
Given the perilous nature of the race I don’t really think there is much value on offer. I have gone with Empire Of Dirt and If In Doubt.
I thought Empire Of Dirt was this year’s County Hurdle winner so in a way I will be wrong whatever happens. He is a prominent racer which should hopefully lessen the chances of traffic problems. His jumping hasn’t been perfect this season but hopefully he can safely negotiate the first few fences and get into a rhythm. He got a decent ride from today’s pilot last time. If he were to win perhaps Fairyhouse can fire up ‘Hurt’ over the tannoy?
If In Doubt is the best horse in today’s race and he has the potential to improve again. I doubt anything in this field will ever be rated higher. The downside is his run style which could easily lead to traffic issues and the possibility of the Cheltenham run leaving a mark. He is only one of numerous horses AP has had jumping issues with so it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if his jumping improved for a new pilot. It is a big day for Fox who hasn’t made the breakthrough many expected.
April 6, 2015 at 10:13 #873762It should be a real slog and I would suggest Vics Canvas at 16/1 as a likely enough sort to grab a place. A bit long in the tooth and not the fastest horse in the world, he won the Cork National in good enough style before an excellent third in The Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown, just behind one time Gold Cup possible Foxrock, and a couple of lengths ahead of the younger The Job Is Right. Vics Canvas is three pounds better off with the latter horse today and was staying on well, almost catching Foxrock that day. The theory is that the extra trip and better terms may offset the fact that The Job Is Right is the younger blood. Despite the sizeable age gap they have run about the same number of times under rules.
Vics Canvas EW at 16/1
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 6, 2015 at 12:23 #873796Three against the field for me are Rule The World, Tammys Hill and Rogue Angel, all ew to 5 places….
April 6, 2015 at 12:30 #873799No good asking me I don’t even have guinea pig
April 6, 2015 at 12:58 #873804Turned myself inside out looking at the race and have given up, mainly because I’m sick of my computer crashing just when I think I’ve found the winner. Empire of Dirt came top at one stage but he hasn’t won over 3 miles. It will Hurt if he wins, but I hope that someone else will Cash in on it even if I haven’t. Silver Tassle was fourth on my list at one time, next to Rogue Angel and Sizing Coal [who has won a ptp at 3 miles and runs well at Navan and Clonmel]. I just hope that McCoy doesn’t win yet again [sorry McCoy fans]. I do like She’s got Grit but all of that Thyestes form [this year and last] is bothering me. The only one I’ve remained loyal to throughout has been Usuel Smurfer, so it’s a good job I didn’t back him. However, if the computer doesn’t crash on me yet again [usually happens towards the end of a race] I’ll be shouting for the old boy, Vics Canvas.

I hope Vics Canvas wins Easel-y and doesn’t hang in the race itself. If he makes the frame I’ll be happy enough.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Sadly, the horse crashed, rather than the computer. Well done anyone who found the winner there. Nice result for Katie Walsh, just shows the girls are capable these days.

April 6, 2015 at 16:28 #873866both my selections brought down in that pile up at the first :( look forward to a race all day and that happens . ah well
April 6, 2015 at 16:52 #873867Well that is probably what you call the exact opposite of nailing it. Empire Of Dirt out at the first which I suppose was predictable and If In Doubt barely managing to find his way out of last place and in the process jumping alarmingly to his left. That wasn’t quite so predictable.
I had backed today’s winner on his last two starts but he was easily passed over given two shockers in which he produced dire rounds of jumping. Perhaps the horse can only go right-handed?
April 6, 2015 at 19:27 #873913Well done five long days with Thunder And Roses, and Bobby too with a crazy 125’s
Vics Canvas was absolutely cantering for me…….just before he fell at the 1st.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 6, 2015 at 20:23 #873937Thunder and Roses only seemed to do badly when held up in his races; haven’t yet seen the race to see how he was ridden today.
April 7, 2015 at 19:15 #874491Well done to those who had the winner, or an ew of 125-1 Bobby, of my two selections Lots Of Memories jumped horrendously and as such was never travelling while The Job Is Right was another who was on the snaff when coming down at the first. The surprise of the race for me was Rule The World. He has looked a non stayer on numerous occasions at three miles and found only the winner too strong in the finish yesterday.
