New thread looking at Irish hurdles mostly

16.05 -blanket on the ground -15/2

Has been running ok recently and this looks a thin race

    15.30 – winter carnival 10/1

Plugged on latest and shud place before goin for handicaps

    15.40 -mount mellary 10/1

Ex Irish horse jumps beautifully (hope that doesn’t jinx it) and stays well. Shud easily place at least.

Well a Liz Truss style start to this thread with winter carnival falling at the first.

Mount Mellary ran a nice race although jumping out to the left a bit cost it. A respectable 4th . Skybet were going 18/1 4 places so some cash back there. I’m hopeful this one can win a race soon.

Blanketontheground ran well again but no match for an improving sort. Able to cover stakes as traded 2.0 in play.

All in all we mark it down as -6 points on the day.

    Running total.
    -6 pts

    We go again tomorrow

1.00 Wexford – Ney – ran respectably the last day and I go 1pt Ew at 14s to place again

2.o5 Wexford – capture the action is a frustrating sort but he likes heavy going and 2 miles and has a very workable mark (has won off higher in the past). 1 PT Ew at 20s

Same race a JP nag Lumineach ran well last time and cud be a decent prospect. 1 PT Ew at 12s

Duke Otto is another I have on the radar in the same race but I fancy it needs better going so will leave him alone tomorrow.

Capture the action finally gets us underway with a solid 2nd- travelled well into the race but well beat in the end. (+4pts)

Lumineach hit 3.25 in play before fading after hitting the front and looked like he needed the run encouraging from that one.

Ney frustratingly just plugged on for 4th so missed out on place money.

    So level on the day.

    overall – (minus) 6pts
Thursday is the next irish jumps action

    3.22 Thurles –

A few in here with chances, I’m really against Global equity.

I’m going with Hope Des Blins – hasn’t been very consistent but was encouraging last time over fences under this conditional, switches back to hurdles now and available at 9/1 – 1 pt ew.

Also in the same race I go with a combo trifecta – 1pt =6 pts total

    10/3/5.

I’m also interested to see how Housemartin runs in the bumper but not really a bet yet unless it drifts to 16s/20s.

Completely read the race wrong- hope Des Blins put in an off day and Global Equity wins easy (what a judge)

    minus 8 on the race.

The bumper nag flagged plugged on for 4th but didnt bet it anyhow.

    Overall Minu 14 pts.

14:40 – I’m relying on an old favourite to get the week back on track – Espion Du Chenet is often underestimated in the market but quite consistent.

Claimer takes it below a winning mark form Punchestown in the spring- actually quite versatile going wise and handles soft no problem.

Solid bet at 14s – 2 pts ew – 4 places accross the board

Espion chinned on the line for 4th so another reverse keeping on theme for the week.

    Overall minus 18pts.

Pinkerton is of particular interest tomorrow. Would prefer a run under its belt, the soft ground will suit.
A tricky race and the mark of 130 may be racy- time will tell. win bet at 7s- 2pts

I’m hoping I’m going to benefit for the run soon.

Pinkerton ran well and hit 1.51 in play but was outgunned in the last 150 yards. Shows he can handle that mark and shud strip fitter next time.

Not a big fan of the flat but a hurdler I like is running drop the anchor. Likes the ground and hopefully rattles home well.

15.27 naas Drop the anchor 28/1 1pt Ew 5 places

    Overall minus 20pts.

Interested to see how influential lady runs and jumps in the cork national

The benefit of betting at the longer end of the market is one good winner gets you back on track. Haven’t watch the race yet but drop the anchor gets us back on track here.

33.6pts profit from that win so overall into the black on 13.6 pts profit.

A horse who really gave me a good day at DRF a few yrs back comes good again.

Respectable run from influential lady as well. Need to watch the replays back.

    Tomorrow

Comedaygoday 14.27 Carlisle. Ex Irish trained horse. Good 3rd behind Broomfield hall in a maiden and also 3rd behind outback flyer as well. Rating is on the high side but I liked this horses attitude.

    1pt ew 18s . 4 places

    Overall +11.6 pts

The selection was punted into 13/2 then meeting abandoned. Hopefully it’s not a busted punt for next time.

Too busy to post today but some decent places in Ireland and a couple of future winners for sure. Nice ex Irish trained winner in the UK too. As I’m mostly talking to myself I won’t beat myself up too much for not posting.

Interesting runners entered at chelts at the weekend. Keen to see how the races shake out at final decs.

A host of Irish Raiders at Cheltenham but nothing is massively sticking out for me.

13:10 – No doubt something at a decent price in here has stones in hand but I can’t find it. Ballyadam destiny was a nice winner last time for me but albeit consistent I don’t think its up to winning this. Alvaro has been punted but its win came in a weak Tramore maiden and it didn’t kick on from there.

The one I’ve come down on here is old Nietszche – back down to its winning mark from the Greatwood win a few years back, it stays this trip and at 12/1 seems an ew steal / bet to nothing- albeit I expect something to improve past it. Recent win on the flat gives confidence its in decent heart. 1pts e/w 12/1 -(english trained horse in Irish angle thread – double standards)

16:00 – Again a tricky race – great realisation is my main pick here. 12/1 – 1pts ew. I’m always weary of these 4 yr olds as they often never step up to the promise of their juvenile performances. a top jockey/ trainer combo tho and has a shout in an open race.

Other one I will punt is Diamond in the mud – 22/1 1pts ew. Up against it at the ratings but consistent enough.

Interested to see how Contraposto runs at 33s- I think it wants softer.

Out of the english trained runners – Mothill looks decent but I don’t have much of a grip on the english form.

14:55 – generally speaking I avoid the veterans chases from a punting perspective. However My manikinecko is always overlooked. 16s is a good price and he may drift further. 1pt e/w but will wait till tomorrow for a bigger price / punt on the machine.
