Just a thought why we’ve only had maybe one 2-year old race over 6 furlongs and they already have their debutants running over 7f.

I can remember when there were no 2yo 6f races in the UK until June (Woodcote on Epsom Downs often the first), no 7f ones until July and none at 1m until August, when nurseries also started.

    All change nowadays.

Well one tradition remains Ian, as the first 1M race for 2-y-olds this year takes place at Kempton on August 2nd and it’s a nursery. The first 7F race is next Friday at Haydock.

Thanks for that, Alan – nice to know that is still intact.

Wasn’t there a 6f race at the Dante meeting? And what about the first nursery of the season? I can remember Pontefract staging it sometime in June over 6f.

First nursery this year is at Haydock on July 2nd. There are 37 nurseries scheduled in July and 53 in August.

Must be the secret of their success at Cheltenham.

Just wait for the Brocklesby to be run over a mile next year.
