Ian is spot on with his post but one thing he should take into consideration is that we are dealing with the Queen of Newmarket here
This horse could have 3 legs and if Triptych says she will win the guineas then she will win the guineas

Spot on Cork my thoughts exactly on the Dinosaur Day. I’ve never seen the 2yo’s so fizzy in tbe parade ring. Surveyor in particular when she threw her jockey David Egan and almost broke free kicking and bucking. She had to do a circuit of the paddock to calm her down before going out onto the course, some of the children were quite frightened by this, it could easily put them off going racing.

Newmarket do have a child restriction of 12 years to be allowed into the pre parade under the trees, I really think they should apply that to the main parade ring also..I also noticed children being allowed to run around on the wheelchair access viewing platform unattended while parents watched the racing.
I”m all for youngsters enjoying racing but they should be learning to respect the horses which sadly this themed day did nothing to encourage.

Anyway rant over, this is the 1000 Guineas Thread.

Many thanks Mike for restoring my faith and pinpointing the colts and fillys who did make Classic winners after a not so eyecatching maiden.
I like to judge my horses on what I see and have to admit I don’t do sectional timing but respect those who do.

I”m looking forward to what she does next. Frankel went on to win the Royal Lodge and The Dewhurst within two months of his maiden. Don’t expect her to be anywhere near that good but then who really knows what a filly by Sea The Stars could achieve. The best filly STS ever produced Sea Of Class sadly never got to achieve her full potential.

Nathan…that’s very kind. I’m interested to see where she goes next.
She seems to have inherited her Sires sweet nature and speed and her maiden run was extremely professional, she was the winner from a long way out.
Of course only time will tell if she truly has Classic potential but that’s the fun of Threads like this. :rose: Jac

I totally respect Jac’s opinion and I’m sure the filly is poised to be better than the bare form and time suggest.

But 33/1 just isn’t an appealing price to me when I bear in mind just how many 2yo maidens there are during a season and I’d rather back See The Fire at a shorter price if and when she shows me more on form and/or the clock as her career progresses.

I shall be first to offer my sincere congratulations to Jac if this filly wins in pattern company next time out.

The “Dinosaur Day” sounds only marginally less stupid than the fireworks on Derby Day last year.

Presumably someone at a high level in Newmarket racecourse has had to approve it. Why did he/she think it was a good idea?

I accept it was well intentioned, trying to appeal to families and a potential new generation of racegoers. It also was not a particularly big meeting. But I am still not convinced it was a good idea.

Is racing so lacking in the confidence of its own stars – the horses and jockeys – that it has to make a day about dinosaurs instead? A sad reflection on the sport and the people who run it.

I seldom go racing on a Saturday now. I just hope there are no dinosaurs around when I am at Wolverhampton tomorrow – other than me and a few others propping up the bar!

‘I shall be first to offer my sincere congratulations to Jac if this filly wins in pattern company next time out.’

I know you will Ian and I’m looking forward to it as it would mean she is a worthy contender…thank you. :rose:

It’s hard sticking your neck out and giving a shout out to a horse that has shown something that I consider special in it’s maiden run and I”m hoping that the fillies who finished behind her also go on to better things. :good:

    Cork…
Summer Saturdays at Newmarket have been dire this year..I do like the Sweet Solera meeting though, but felt sorry for anyone with a disability negotiating the parade ring with all the pushchairs around and accessing the viewing platform with the kids using it as a playground.
Enjoy your evening at Wolverhampton..Dinosaur free of course :good:

“It’s hard sticking your neck out”

It absolutely is, Jac, and what I love about your paddockside/trackside opinions is you never sit on the fence.

In some ways, it’s equally hard to reply “I’d need to see more” because if there’s one thing that is literally 33 times worse than tipping a 33/1 loser it’s “dissing” a 33/1 winner!

But I’m not dissing this filly – if you were impressed, I’m sitting up and taking notice, even if I’m not having a bet on her yet.

Let’s see where she runs next!

Me too! I like it when anyone gives a strong opinion, especially at a good price!

“Summer Saturdays at Newmarket have been dire this year.”

I am sorry to hear that. The July Course was the first track I ever visited, so I will always be fond of it. Maybe they race there a bit too often now? I recall last year it had problems with small fields.

It might be worth a message to Newmarket about the issues yesterday?

By the way, Wolverhampton tomorrow is a rare afternoon meeting. I do not live near the track but the good transport links means I can get there almost as quickly as I can to my local tracks. The racing is not great but it is good value, with good viewing and never too crowded.

Appreciate that Ian and Cork..I hardly ever jump on a bandwagon that’s already rolling, I like to try to see something a bit special and yesterday I think I have found a nice filly to follow for the rest of this year and into 2024 hoping she keeps sound and safe. I would be really happy to see her win in pattern company Ian. I watched her race several times when I got back and I’m happy with what I saw especially when she was encouraged to run up the hill she did everything readily and that’s what I like about her. :rose:

Regarding the shambles at Newmarket yesterday I will be sending a message to Amy Starkey detailing the issues that arose around the staging of the Dinosaur day. :good: will report back if I get a reply.

I’ve never been to Wolverhampton, my local track is 12 miles away at Chelmsford City and I’m not a great fan of the Fred Done owned track I’d rather travel the extra 35 miles to Newmarket. I think they are staging the grey horse race next Saturday and then its the Cesarewich Trial so it is improving. I’m looking forward to being back on the Rowley Mile next month.

Enjoy Wolverhampton and although I doubt you will see one there keep looking out for contenders for next years 1000 Guineas. :good: Jac

Impressive debut from Sea The Fire. Impeccable pedigree but surely more Oaks than Guineas? Like Nathan, I bow to Jac’s expertise in all things Newmarket, though. Perhaps she’ll win both. Half brother was only beaten half a length by Trushan in the Northumberland Plate. What price triple crown?!

Lol..that could have Ian really grovelling Catherine. Perhaps he would treat us all to a TRF hospitality box at Donny if she climbs to those dizzy heights..

No chance – I’m far too tight with money.

Absolutely no doubt that Jac has an eye like no other when
she watches them in the ring. She’s worth her weight in gold
for sticking them in your “one to watch” tracker. I don’t get
to the course as often as I would like, but I spend an age
watching reruns of races. Virtually for every horse in a race
    I’m interested in.

The 1000 Guineas isn’t really in any kind of sorted state at
this time but some have shown their hand a bit are are in the
“one to watch” tracker. Jac’s Sea The Fire won her race in fine
style, I’d like to see more from her but she’s certainly interesting.

The favourite, O’Brien’s Ylang Ylang, looked decent winning her 2
races over 7F but it was the runner up Vespertilio that really caught
my eye. She made up good ground and was running on 1 1/2L behind the
O’brien fav. It was her 1st race, in a maiden at Fairyhouse where she
again caught the eye finishing 3rd behind another O’Brian filly, The
Caribbean (who admittedly hasn’t gone on to frank that form). Vespertilio
was still well out the back with a furlong to go, but found another gear
and passed most of the field to be closing down the 1st pair, but too late.
She definity needs more than 7f, and is definitely one I’ll be watching if
she goes for the Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes at the Curragh next Saturday
(19th). Only worry for me is another I’ve got another tagged in my tracker,
Snellen, who won the Chesham Stakes last time out at Ascot.

Both Vespertilio and Snellen are both offered at 20s and 25s for the
1000 Guineas, but too early for me to hang my hat on anything at this time.

We know where to find you Ian 🔍…cosying up with Luke Harvey by the wall at Goodwood while he tries to convince Peanut the Cockatiel that he’s good at tipping horses. You could be there a while

Thanks Graham :good: ..I’m certain we will see more from See The Fire but it’s a long tough road until next May and it’s going to be interesting following her progress and hope her next race sees her going forward and getting herself some black type. :good:

Best of luck sorting us out a big price 1000 Guineas winner for next year Graham if anyone can do that you’re the man. :good: Jac

When Aidan O’Brien opens his mouth to talk hype, I switch off.

But when he talks about where horses are actually going to run next I take notice.

Today’s facile Curragh winner Opera Singer apparently heads for the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile next.

And, while she may ultimately need further next year, I’d rather have a Fillies’ Mile winner over the 1,000 course and distance than a Cheveley Park (6f), or even Moyglare (7f) winner every time.

16/1 for this won’t be around if she makes her first visit to the Rowley Mile a winning one.

I’d just like to point out that the Queen of HQ’s 1,000 Guineas filly holds entries in both the Rockfel Stakes and the Fillies’ Mile.
